Where did the Romans come from?

During our expedition lesson, we looked at where the Romans came from. We found out that the city of Rome, in Italy, was the centre of the Roman Empire. We watched a quick clip that showed us what Ancient Rome used to be like and we made some interesting observations – there were no cars, people travelled on horseback instead and all the buildings were really detailed, decorated in red and gold. We used our ICT skills to locate Italy using Google Earth and identified where this was on a World Map.

Roman invasion

In expedition we have been learning all about the Romans. Yesterday, we focussed on finding out when the Romans invaded Britain. We sorted the timeline of events and discovered that the Romans invaded Britain in 43 AD under Emperor Claudius’s control. As a crew, we had a discussion about what AD and BC meant in relation to the dates on our timeline.

Little Red Riding Hood Experience Lesson

Today we started looking at our new English text, Little Red Riding Hood. We talked about the book and I was impressed by how many children could recall the story. After we read our book we made baskets and skipped around school just like Little Red Riding Hood skipped through the forest. All the treats made it safely back to class and thankfully we didn’t meet a wolf (this time!).

Reading – Book Talk

This morning in reading, Crew Thompson used text marking to help unpick the text. We started new pages this week so it was really important to get a good understanding of the text and what the key words meant. In our next book talk lesson, we will use our text marking to help create a class glossary of these key words. This will really help us in our demonstration lesson later on in the week.

Conjunction work in MI

We continued our grammar work today where we looked at the conjunctions and but because. We did lots of chotting and shared writing before having a go at our own sentences. We will continue to practice these conjunctions 🙂

Show and tell crew 💕

KS1 have decided that every Friday we want to hold and show and tell crew where children can share something from outside of school with their crew. It’s a great opportunity for us to get to know each other better and practise our speaking and listening skills.
