A huge thank you to our grown ups for coming to our nursery sports day. It was lovely to see so many of you and the children were fantastic!
Crew MW – PE
In PE this week, we started looking at fundamentals, starting with balancing. We imagined we were tightrope walkers at the circus and began by practising walking in a straight line with our arms outstretched to the side. We then used a balance beam to walk across, concentrating on how we could stay balanced. Some of us were a little apprehensive about this beforehand, but as a crew we encouraged everyone to have a go and we were all successful!
Glow in the dark ball skills!
We had so much fun with our PE coaches this morning! We learnt lots of new ball skills like bouncing balls and throwing balls! We worked in teams to use our ball skills to collect the pirate treasure and then counted up the treasure to see which team had won! Once we knew how to play the game, we turned off the lights and played it while we glowed! It was so much fun!
St George’s Day Celebrations
Yesterday, we spent our afternoon celebrating St George’s Day in Crew MW! We begun the day by learning about who St George was and what he did to earn a special day in England. Some of us then decided that we wanted to make a shield just like St George had while we were in provision. We got to work cutting the shapes out of the cardboard (although this bit was tricky and we needed some help), and then decorated our shields using tissue paper, pompoms, coloured pencils and feathers.
At lunch time, we had a special picnic to celebrate! It was delicious!
In the afternoon, we chose to make fearsome dragons like the one St George defeated! We followed the steps to cut out the different pieces, then joined them all together to create our scary dragons!

In PE this week, we have been looking at fireworks and how they move. We listened to a sound clip of fireworks exploding and said that they make big shapes in the sky as well as being sparkly and loud.
We created movements for the words ‘bang, crackle and fizz’ and listened carefully for Miss McGlone to shout these words as we moved to a piece of firework music around the hall. Every time we heard a different word, we had to change the action to match the word.
We then created a group movement piece to represent a firework. We started by standing close together as a group wiggling our fingers to show the firework fizzing and cracking as it shoots into the sky. We then turn around and spread out, standing with our feet apart and arms stretched out to show the firework exploding!

In PE we have been looking at the skills needed for dance. In our first session, we listened to different sounds from the seaside and talked about what they were. We created different actions for: a beach umbrella opening, waves, digging in the sand, and an ice cream! We counted to 4 whilst doing each of the actions before moving on to the next action, starting to count to 4 from the beginning each time we changed action. We were lucky enough to perform our final noisy postcard to the children in Crew Marsh!
In the next session, we focused on creatures that lived under the sea. We moved around the hall as different sea creatures, listening carefully to the instructions on when to change to another creature. We then created actions for: an octopus, a shark, a stingray, and a seahorse. We practised using the actions and movements as we moved around the hall. Our favourite was definitely the shark!
