Book talk in MI

Our entry ticket allowed us to build on previous reading lessons, thinking back to the African countries we have studied and read about. We thought back to the facts we had learnt about these countries and worked with our partners to voice facts. I was blown away by what we remembered! We have really loved learning about each country and learning about what it has to offer.

We then read our next bit of text all about Mauritius! This was a complete contrast to some of the countries we had previously looked at. We took part in a partner read, independent read and then a chorus read. We read the text over and over to ensure we were taking in the information. Mrs McClare questioned us on our reading as we read. We unpicked some of the language and made inferences based on the information.

We then moved onto our reasons to read, using the text to support our answers. We looked at different types of questions, some of these were ones we had struggled with in our latest assessment. We thought about our impressions of Mauritius and used the text to support our ideas.

Finally our exit ticket allowed us to think about Ammeenah Gurib, we voiced all the facts we had learnt about her whilst reading. A fantastic reading lesson today 🙂

Caring Crew in MI

Today we thought about how we feel in certain situations and how we can regulate our thoughts and behaviour. We worked in smaller crews to think about what makes us happy. We drew our ideas in thought bubbles then shared them with the whole crew. We then did the same for the emotion sad and compared our ideas. We then compared to the emotions anger and calm. From here we played an emotions game where effective communication was key. We moved around the board sharing times where we have experienced each emotion. During our debrief we discussed why thinking positive thoughts is so important and why having a positive attitude is key. We linked to our howls here and discussed when we have done this.

Festival of Sports continued… 🩰⚾️🏃‍♂️💨😅

How exciting and what an amazing opportunity for some of our children to experience! The final dance when all the schools came together was amazing and it really is a memory which will stay with our children I’m sure! They all took part in the activities and thoroughly enjoyed each one, boccia being a new one to try and they took to it like pro’s. Great sportsmanship from KS1 today well done 👏

Magical Magnets 🧲

In our expedition lesson, we began to experiment with magnets, investigating how they work. We identified that opposites attract. This means that when you put a North Pole with a South Pole, they will pull together and ‘stick’! It was so fun to feel the force of the magnets pushing each other away when like poles were placed together – North and North, South and South repel!

Magnificent magnets 🧲

In our expedition lesson, we have been investigating how magnets work and what items around the classroom were magnetic. We found that when you put North Pole and North Pole together (the same) the repel but when you put North Pole and South Pole together (opposite) they attract. We found that items such as scissors, paper clips and coins are magnetic but things such as paper, cardboard and pencils are not. 🧲

Festival of sport 🏈🏐🎊

What an AMAZING day we have had today at Active Fusions festival of sport. We have participated in a range of activities such as rugby, seated volleyball, team building, ballet and taekwondo! We even got to run a lap on the track! 🏃‍♀️💨We had so much fun and can’t wait for the next one! 😃😃
