Expeditionary learning

After a super busy SATs week last week, we have now started catching up with our expedition ‘How can a healthy lifestyle impact your body and mind?’ hook week. Here are some pieces of artwork we are proud of. Every single piece is beautiful but here are just a few!

In DT we did a blind food tasting session and had a go at tasting food we had never tasted before! Our reactions to certain food were a picture! We then challenged ourselves to a game of ready steady cook and were given 3 ingredients to create a simple dish. We made some sugar cookies and discussed why they are unhealthy.

Padlet of science

Today we began our science case study beginning with understanding the circulatory system. Have a look at our padlet full of facts 👩🏼‍🔬🧑🏽‍🔬

EYFS playground is ready!

The area is finally ready!!

We would like to invite you to a stay and explore session with your child at either 8.45am or 2.15pm on Monday 23rd May.

Feel free to attend either session with your child. Staff will be around to speak to and guide children into school in the morning and then out of school for home in the afternoon.

You will be able to look around our exciting new area and explore the wonderful equipment with your child. We will be greeting all parents and children at the normal blue gates (front of school) at both times, where the ribbon will be cut and the area will be open for the children to explore.

The children will then be dropped off and picked up from the main blue gates after the opening.

Important information

The new equipment installed is specifically designed for children working in the EYFS (between 3 and 6 years of age). This means that unfortunately, older children are not permitted to use the equipment due to height and weight restrictions. We kindly ask that when dropping off and collecting your child from the EYFS, older siblings DO NOT climb or play on the equipment due to health and safety reasons. We also ask that EYFS children do not play on the equipment before or after school. The local park is a short walk away if your child would like to play on park equipment out of school hours. To ensure that the new equipment is only used during school hours by EYFS children, members of school staff will monitor the playground and ask children to come off the playground equipment if they are seen playing on it. We thank you for your cooperation on this matter.

Thank you for your support, we look forward to seeing you on Monday!

DT Hook session – Ready, steady, BAKE!

Heart Dissection

Today, we had the chance to dissect a heart which would allow us to develop our understanding further. We weren’t all delighted at the prospect of cutting the heart open but we had a go. Although, some of us had to leave the room. Definitely, a different experience in the classroom for Crew Shields.

Max/Ellie – I enjoyed exploring the aorta and the vena cava.

Hannah – I loved dissecting the heart and exploring the aorta and vena cava.

Ellie – I learned the muscle on the right side of the heart is thicker because it has more work to by pumping all the blood around the body. The Left muscle wall is thinner because it only has to pump blood to the lungs.

TTRS Guinness World Record Broken!

Independent writing in MI

Over the last 2 days children have been busy planning and writing their first plot point for their independent writing. This is a diary entry and children have taken on the role of a character from the narrative we are reading in our reading lessons- Pig Heart Boy. They have used their target grids effectively to apply a range of features and the plot point they have produced is of real quality! I can’t wait to read plot point 2!

Our crew howl score today has also been one of our highest yet! 3.4! I still think we can improve this further!
