Today we had some medical training on how to become a physician from the restoration period. We learnt about the 4 humours (blood, phelgm, black bile and yellow bile) and what an apothecary would have done to cure any ailments. We used a variety of exciting ingredients (dried fox hair, fresh herbs, powdered bones and bat blood) to create our own cures to treat different diseases.

SLC success 🤩
Our SLCs this week have been such a wonderful experience to be part of – all the children have been beaming since presenting to their parents. In crew this morning all the children that had their SLC yesterday said they felt really happy because their parents said they were proud and loved hearing about their learning 🥰 I am so proud too with how you had the confidence despite being nervous and how well you articulated yourselves. Amazing, Crew Mcloughlin!

Slavery Source Investigation (4.5.22) 🕵️🕵️♂️
Today, LKS2 have been critiquing different historical sources from the past. The children looked at primary sources that Slave Traders used to sell and promote the sale of slaves right through to drawings of slave ships and human cargo. We also investigated a range of secondary sources, looking at artistic representations in slavery. We compared what it was like for African and Chinese slaves, discussing what was similar and different.
The insights were interesting and there was a buzz of discussions as we noticed, inferred and even wondered what was happening. This was a great lesson full of fantastic discussions about slavery through these valuable sources. This is helping us to understand Why sugar is not so sweet!
Reading in Crew Gerrard 📚(4.5.22)
Crew Gerrard enjoyed a trip to the library where we updated our books and had a read of them in the cosy room. It was great fun seeing how relaxed Crew Gerrard were and the enjoyment they had reading their books! We can’t wait to keep going!

If children are not attending our free breakfast club during SATs week, please can we ask that Y6 pupils are in school for 8:20am each morning to allow assessments to begin on time. Registration will be 8:25am.
Free breakfast will be held in school Monday 9th – Thursday 12th from 7:50am – 8:20am.
Assessments are as follows:

UKS2 Spring Expedition Exhibition
We have raised over £70 to send to a environmental charity this week – Amazing work!
Crew Welburn, Crew Longley and Crew Godley Trip
As part of our Summer Term expedition, we would like to take the opportunity to take our KS1 children to the Beamish Museum in Durham. The visit will be a full day where the children will have the opportunity to see what school was like if they were five or six years old in the past. Children will also have the opportunity to discover the games of the playground and take part in an infant lesson in the kindergarten of a Victorian school. Beamish also presents a unique insight into the living and working experiences of life in the Great North offering unrivalled learning opportunities.
Please ensure that children are wearing school uniforms and sensible shoes. Children will also need to bring a water bottle.
The children will be provided with a packed lunch from school.
The trip is on Wednesday 15th June 2022. The coach will collect us from school at 8:00am and it will return at approximately 5:00pm depending on the traffic.
Children will need to be at school by 7:45am
Please note: All monies and consents need to be completed and paid via Parentpay no later than Wednesday 8th June 2022.
The cost of the trip is £20.00. We are asking parents to pay £10.00 per child and the school will subsidise the remainder of the cost. Unfortunately, if we don’t receive enough money the trip will not go ahead.
