In maths we have been discussing 2D and 3D shapes. We talked about the difference and how 2D shapes are flat, and 3D shapes are solid. We were introduced to the names of some 3D shapes and tried really hard to remember what they were!
We then worked as a group to sort out a selection of shapes into 2D shapes and 3D shapes. Some of us showed a great level of understanding by explaining the reasons why they had chosen whether a shape was 2D or 3D.
In maths we have been looking at odd and even numbers. We looked at how even numbers would always show pairs, and each part would have a matching partner. However, odd numbers did not have a matching partner for every part, meaning there was an odd one on its own.
We then tried to guess whether the numicon piece in the mystery bag was an odd or an even number by feeling whether it had a completely flat top meaning that it was an even number as every part had a matching partner or whether it had a bump on the top meaning that it was an odd number as not every part had a matching partner.
Crew Godley had a great time trying to build the tallest tower using only paper and cellotape. We worked in groups to find ways to make our towers tall but also sturdy so that they could stand up on their own.
In Crew this morning we discussed who Saint George was and why is is celebrated on 23rd April. We worked collaboratively to make a handprint dragon as part of our crew challenge.
At lunchtime we enjoyed our indoor picnic served in a union flag box!
Finally this afternoon we completed our St George’s Day quest. We had to complete three craft activities including pointillism dragons, collage shields and a London inspired Union flag. The children loved taking part in all the activities and collecting stickers when they completed a challenge.
This afternoon, we celebrated St Georges day by looking into the story of St George. We learned that St George was a Christian who lived in Turkey. He became a Roman soldier at the age of 17. The ruler at the time wanted to punish Christians but St George stood up for them. Unfortunately he was punished for this but his bravery didn’t go unnoticed. He was rewarded and became a patron saint. We then looked at the British Values, in particular democracy. We found out that democracy means that everyone has a say and the right to vote. You have to be the age of 18 to vote but that didn’t stop us. We had 3 politicians who had a manifesto. We then went to the polling station and cast our vote on a ballot paper. Shelby won our vote by gaining the majority!
This week, in nursery, we have been learning about and practicing sorting in different ways. We have been mainly focusing on size sorting- big vs small. The children enjoyed sticking the different pictures into their piles and helping baby bear and big bear get the right food for their picnic.
Crew Godley have practiced some number formation before beginning our multiplication lesson this morning. This is super important skill to practice before we apply writing the numbers into our maths work!
Today in our experience lesson we followed the singing into the woods to find the tree which was singing. We found the leaves were swirling and dancing to a magical, luminous green, old tree. We thought it looked different to the city we had just travelled from. We made some beautiful artwork to showcase what we had seen.
In our PE lesson we have enjoyed creating our own dance thinking about toys in a toy box. We have got very good at counting in our heads to make sure we are all in time and doing it together.
