LKS2 Tuesday 🕵️‍♂️🕵️

We started the day off with another active Crew. This time, we worked on building up trust, talking clearly and encouraging our crew mates. We had to walk with our eyes closed and give instructions of where to walk. We then debriefed with our steps to success and our feelings during this time.

During maths, we continued to work on place value by consolidating what we already new about base 10 representations and actual numbers. We worked together to solve these and showed how much we have become smart over recent lessons!

Then, it was Expedition for the rest of the day. We continue to delve deeper into how war changes lives! We explored the lives of evacuees. We watched propaganda videos and discussed whether the children were as happy as they looked. We had a silent conversation to see what we noticed and wondered about evacuees. Finally, we studied what would have gone into an evacuees suitcase and when children began to be evacuated to the countryside.

LKS2 Monday 😃

The first two days of this week have been busy, but we’ve started the week really settled and with a great attitude to learn. We started the week off by drawing someone who is a friend to us as part of Crew, to put a smile on the faces of our friends.

During our Expedition, we have have continued to build up our knowledge of the Second World War. We completed a KWL to share what we already knew about this interesting period of history and asked questions about what we would like to know. We continued to act out the life of an evacuee with the book Bombs and Blackberries as we shared our performances with the Crew and critiqued them with praises. Lots of praise being for expression and performing in front of others!

Listening – Crew Shields

This morning in Crew we have had a big focus on developing our listening skills. Children were given instructions which they had to follow but to keep things interesting we then swapped what they had to do. For example – walk meant stop, stop meant walk, clap meant shout their name and name meant to clap.

This definitely highlighted that our listening skills will have to be a big focus over the next few weeks.

Book talk in MI

Some great collaborative working during our reading lesson today. Children worked with their partner to read part of our reading text then answer book talk questions. They shared their thoughts and listened to the opinions of others 🙂

UKS2 Fieldwork that was out of this world 🚀

Y5 and Y6 were able to visit the National Space Centre on Wednesday where we had time to explore all the different interactive galleries and the UKs largest planetarium. The children had the opportunity to see shuttles, rockets, space suits and even a real piece of the moon.

During the day, they were able to read lots of information which then allowed them to answer some questions around our second case study for this expedition focusing on forces.

We also took part in a workshop all about the Sun, Earth and Moon. We took part in a quiz then took part in a practical activity around how we get day and night and seasons. Afterwards, they explored the phases of the moon and then produced a turn wheel to help them remember each phase.

Every child displayed awesome HoWLs and they really did themselves and school proud. This fieldwork has really hooked us in to our learning and we cannot wait to get started learning even more about our expedition!

Busy busy – Crew Shields

Today has been a super busy day as we’ve continued with hook week and slowly started to introduce each area of the curriculum. This has also involved a huge focus on our expectations for each subject area and how this will look for Crew Shields

The children have then spent the afternoon continuing with their research and making paper mache planets. This was a very messy job! The aim is to get this finished tomorrow and then we will paint next week.

National Space Centre – 31/9/22

What a great day we had exploring the National Space Centre (Leicester)! The children had the opportunity to see shuttles, rockets, space suits and even a real piece of the moon.

During the day, they were able to read lots of information which then allowed them to answer some multiple choice questions during the workshop. Afterwards, they explored the phases of the moon and then produced a turn wheel to help them remember each phase.

The children’s behaviour was exceptional and they really did themselves and school proud.

LKS2s first day back! 😃

LKS2 started their new academic year by completing a Crew circle. During that, we all shared lots of lovely, happy stories of our summer holidays: this included time playing in the pool and wonderful sounding holidays!

After this, we then went onto complete some maths and started by chanting our multiplications without any hesitation or signs that we had had a summer break. What impressed me even more was our knowledge of place value, which we will continue to explore in the coming weeks.

Once we had some fresh air to keep our brains fresh, we then went onto to look at images and illustrations from our new book. We had so many brilliant incites into the images and shared lots of clever inferences. I think we’ll be just fine when we get further into the book after todays showing!

During the afternoon, we started to explore the Hook Week part of our new Expedition. We’re trying to guess what our Guiding Question could be and I am interested to see what else we come up with throughout the rest of the week. We do, however, know that we are looking into the Second World War, which definitely perked up our interest as we looked at images from the War and relating to it. We worked collaboratively to come up with wonders and notices about these images. Ideas given were ’where could the children be going on the train?’ and ’that is a gas mask used in dangerous situations’. It was great to see such enthusiasm straight away!

Welcome back Crew MI

Such a great first day back in Crew MI 🙂 We started our day with an extended crew discussing our summer breaks. This involved lots of funny stories and we all laughed a lot! We then talked about expectations, linking to HOWLS and discussed handwriting and presentation expectations in lots of detail. We will be building on HOWLS throughout the week thinking about each small step a little more. We then took part in lots of team building activities which again made us laugh but we all showed great communication skills and worked well together.

We then moved into some maths learning, recapping some arithmetic skills before moving onto place value. We thought about the value of the digits in numbers with up to 8 digits, reading and writing them. We worked collaboratively with our partner, giving support where needed. From here we applied what we had just looked at to a variety of games. We enjoyed competing against each other!

After break we started to look into our new expedition. We thought about if the earth is flat or spherical and all took part in a debate voicing our thoughts and opinions on this topic. We also watched clips to give us more information on this area. We then started to think about space and the planets. We recapped any existing knowledge, watched clips to build further knowledge then started to create our own slides on some of the planets. We also started to create our own paper mache models on some of the planets.

Welcome back Crew MI, what a great year we have ahead 🙂

PE days are Wednesdays and Fridays 🙂

First day back – Crew Shields

It has been such a pleasure having the children back in school today and making a fantastic start to what I’m sure will be a great year!

We started the morning with some crew building activities which are vital to a smooth running classroom. The children had to work on their communication skills so that they could firstly order themselves from tallest to shortest and then from oldest to youngest. For some they had to get down to the nitty gritty as we have 2 students born on the same day but fortunately they knew one was 10 hours older. Phew! Snowballs was our next crew building activities where children had to write a Would you rather or what would you do if question. Some great questions

E.g – Would you rather go to a football game or school? What would you do if you found £10 outside? Would you rather have a mansion or 1 million pounds?

Unfortunately, we didn’t have time for them all today but we will work through the rest during this week.

It was important to get the brain ticking again so we played some maths games that required us to think about place value. It was lovely seeing the children support each other if they found something a little tricky.

Overall, we’ve had a great first day back and I’m looking forward to our trip tomorrow.
