Today for our experience lesson we learnt that Hansel and Gretel stumbled upon a gingerbread house deep in the forest. We couldn’t resist having a go at making our own. The children worked collaboratively to build their houses which proved quite tricky!
Today we were visited by PCSO Barker and PC Parish to learn more about their jobs and why they are heroes in our community. They spoke to us about the two areas of their job, caring and controlling. They shared how they much prefer caring and keeping us safe.
This week we have begun our writing unit on the Three Little Pigs. We have been building different things in our building site area to hook us into our learning before we start writing next week.
We loved meeting the police today, they told us about their job and shared what their two main roles were: caring and controlling. We are looking forward to learning more about the police over the next few weeks.
As a mark of respect and to show our gratitude to those who served and are serving our country, we held a special presentation for Remembrance Day. The remembrance service was led by KS1 this year as they have been learning about the significant heroes during their history case study this term. We are so proud of the respect, compassion and remembrance shown by our children throughout the service. If you would like to take a look at our whole school art work and wreaths, it will be in the main foyer, next week.
Students from XP Doncaster were very lucky to be able to welcome Flying Scotsman home today as guests of Doncaster Council. They had the opportunity to see this iconic engine up close and meet so many people who have made this special visit happen.
They were also able to hand copies of the newly published book ‘Rail CIty’ to those who had so kindly contributed to it … but more on that next week!

XP Gateshead: Unheard voices of WWI
Last year, Y8 at XPG recorded a radio broadcast of unheard voices from WWI. They did this to honour the sacrifices of those who are sometimes forgotten when we remember the victims of WWI.
We are proud to share that this broadcast will be played on Memory Lane Radio on Saturday 11th November at 11am (their Armistice day slot!) Reuben visited the studio with Mrs Downes and was interviewed about the project. We will share a link to this interview in the coming days.
Be sure to tune in tomorrow to hear this beautiful work on the radio!
What a wonderful week we have had getting to know each other and building relationships in Crew Haigh. We have explored a whole range of sensory and learning activities together and coped really well with the change in staff and new routines.
We have had a great week in nursery using our printing skills to make some poppy prints on card. We put all of our work together a created a wreath for our schools Remembrance community meeting in the hall. We were very proud to be part of the day!
Today in RE, we learnt more about Jesus’ values and what impact they potentially have in the 21st Century. We discussed quotes and mission statements from Jesus and interpreted what we thought they meant. Some of the vocabulary was tricky but we worked as a crew to understand this. To finish we discussed our school mission and linked this to our HoWLs ‘Work Hard, Get Smart and Be Kind’ and discussed how we could make this world a better place.
