This afternoon, we completed our computing lesson! The objective for our lesson was to recognise the parts of a computer. To be successful in this lesson we had to name the key parts of a computer, explain the purpose of different computer parts and explain that a keyboard contains lots of buttons. We then went onto Sketchpad and tried to create our own computer. We found some parts of this quite tricky such as drawing shapes and changing the colour but we were really resilient and showed high levels of determination to complete the task. We can’t wait to continue our learning in computing in the coming weeks.
At the end of last year, we asked students in C29 to reflect on the learning that took place outside the classroom and how this has helped them to build Crew.
Beautiful Curation: Carcroft School
Look at this collection of recent work which is now on display in the corridors of Carcroft School. Be sure to stop and admire students beautiful work from across phases and Expeditions!
This morning in crew we went on a number hunt around school to find the digits 1 to 10. We worked hard to use our magnet eyes to make sure we found all the digits. Once we had collected them all, we took them back to the classroom and worked as a crew to put them in the correct order. We did a fantastic job and managed to successfully order the numbers!
We have been practising the colourful technique of Steven Brown so we can apply it to our final piece of a hedgehog. I have been really impressed with how artistic Crew Marsh is.🖌️
This afternoon, we completed our grammar lesson about subordinate Clauses. We tried to sing along with the song to help us remember them before completing our tasks. We’ve been ensuring we are secure with our conjunctions before moving on to sentence types.
Today, we started to edit and redraft our recount from the Yorkshire Wildlife Park. This has been a skill we’ve been working on since September and we’re continuing to develop.
We looked at an example of someone’s work and went through the process of taking one sentence at a time so we’re editing/redrafting small chunks. This ensures that we are working with manageable chunks. After modelling, children had the opportunity to start editing/redrafting their own work. They worked on whiteboards so they could edit and rework their sentence before writing into their books. We will continue to work on this during the next couple of lessons.
In PE we have been learning all the different skills needed in a game of dodgeball. This week we have began to think tactically and apply this to a game. To be successful in this lesson we need to play fairly using the rules of the game and show honesty and admit if you are out. To warm up we played “Catch stuck in the mud”. Two pupils were taggers with a ball. If pupils were hit below the shoulder with a live ball they stood in place. Two pupils were ‘free-ers’ with a ball each. Stuck players could rejoin the game when passed to by a free-er. We really enjoyed this game and continued to practice our throwing skills. We then put this into practice and played a mini game of dodgeball.
This afternoon, we learnt why Christians pray to God. First we discussed who we go to for help. We came up with some great ideas such as parents, teachers, friends and aunties and uncles. Then, we related this to why Christians pray to God. We discussed how God can be there for people and offer them help and support, give forgiveness and to provide a friendship. We then read The Lords Prayer and interpreted the meaning of it. For example, we said how God can offer protection because in the Lords Prayer it says “Lead us not into temptation, deliver us from evil”. Finally, we wrote our own prayer. We were shocked by some of the lovely things the children mentioned for example “please help people who don’t have food”, “please can you help me because I am struggling in maths”, “thank you for the food, family and friendships I have” and “please provide warmth and food for those who need it”.
Today, we were super excited to start our new writing block! We found out we were writing a narrative based on the film Ice Age The Meltdown ❄️🧊 We started our experience day by looking at snapshots from the film and chotting what we could notice, any actions that were happening and what the character may be feeling. After that, we watched part of the film to familiarise ourselves with what happens. We really enjoyed this and it showed us exactly what we would be writing about. Next, we sequenced pictures from the film to see if we could remember the order which it happened. We really enjoyed this and had some great discussions about how Ellie the Mammoth being stuck in the cave could not come before the water escaped the dam. We are really excited to start writing this narrative!💦🦣
