During crew this morning, we went out onto the playground to pick up litter. We found lots of litter hiding down drains and behind the container. We really do enjoy keeping our school environment tidy. 🗑

We worked in mini crews to put chunks of sentences together in order to create full sentences that included a subordinate clause (a clause that does not make sense on its own). The sentences we created were:
We discussed which part of these sentences was the main clause and which part was the subordinate. We also discussed whether our sentences could be put in a different order and still make sense.

Some of Crew Hamill were lucky enough to be chosen to take part in a boxing class this afternoon. We had so much fun and Miss Hamill was super impressed with how strong our punching skills were!

Crew Hamill have been learning how to add measurements this week and we consolidating our learning today by finding measurements around the room and using the column method to add them together. We worked really hard on ensuring our columns lined up and that we could add the measurements accurately, starting with our ones. Some of us even challenged ourselves to add metres and centimetres, converting between the two!

In Crew Marsh, this afternoon we have learnt about algorithm’s – an algorithm is a set of instructions. We had to follow Miss Marsh’s instructions to get the same outcome.
We first looked to see if children got changed in the same order.

After that we came up with an algorithm for Lincoln to follow so he did get changed the same as Destiny.

We then followed instructions to dress the human the same.

Today is our computing lesson we explored what an algorithm is. We learnt that they are a set of instructions to help carry out a task.
We started by exploring getting dressed and how sometimes it matters which order we get dressed in for example tie and shirt and other times it doesn’t matter. We used paper dolls to practice writing and following our own algorithms to dress the doll.

Finally we ordered instructions for crossing the road and we decided we must do this in the correct order to stay safe.

Today we made bananas for our experience lesson, when Handa started walking to her friend Akeyo she walked past a tall tree which had a cheeky monkey in it, who pinched Handa’s bananana!!
We tried really hard at balancing our banana on our head just like Handa does. Look at our balancing!

Our experience lesson today was totally bananas!
We are exploring the book Handa’s Surprise and in the story fruit is taken out of her basket as she walks to her friends house. A cheeky monkey swings down from a tree and steals a yellow banana without Handa knowing. Once we had made out bananas we walked around school balancing them on our heads. We were on the lookout for monkeys but luckily we didn’t spot any this time!
