Maths masters ➗

This week we have been showing great perseverance by solving long division with the coin method. Some children even coached to help everyone in Crew to get smart! Teamwork makes the dream work🤩

Crew Gerrard Expedition (17.11.21)

What a great Expedition lesson we had this afternoon, as we continued to learn about human and physical features as part of Case Study 2: Geography. We looked at London to see how it differed from Kabul, Afghanistan (in our previous lesson). We used maps and images of London to see what features we could spot.

I was really pleased with the hard work I saw and how calmly we participated with popcorn and think pair share, during our active lesson. Keep up the good work Crew Gerrard! 😆

Crew MI

What a busy day in Crew MI! We started off the day with a team building activity in crew where children had to work together to transport balloons around the room without dropping them! We showed such determination doing this.

We have also started our non chronological report by writing our introduction today. We found this quite challenging at first however we supported each other and are happy with the work we have produced. We used our fix it time well and acted on feedback effectively.

See you all tomorrow!

KS1 Walkathon

We would just like to thankyou 🙏 to everyone involved in ensuring our Walkathon event was a roaring success. We have made a great start towards our £1500 target.

Currently, our total stands at £840 👏, with some sponsorship still to arrive in school. Please could any remaining sponsorship be sent into school this week.

We would like to praise the determination shown by all the children as they worked hard to complete their laps.

Super crew work by all!

Crew Mcloughlin Scientists

As part of our expeditionary learning this week, we learnt about dissolving and the science behind it ⚗️👨🏻‍🔬👩🏻‍🔬We learnt lots of scientific keywords 🧠 If a soluble solute (like coffee) is added to a solvent (like H2o) it will dissolve and create a solution, however if a solute is insoluble, like sand, it will create a mixture. We even went further to experiment different conditions with the rate a solute would dissolve at. We found hot water and movement was the best condition to dissolve the coffee the fastest. Crew Mcloughlins classroom certainly smelled lovely after this experiment ☕️

Crew Boswell – 12th November 2021

It’s been a busy week for us in Crew Boswell as we’ve looked to push on from our great first week back. Here’s some of the highlights to give you a glimpse as well as our quote for the week…

“Mistakes are proof that you are trying.”

Maths Week

This week we have been enjoying a range of activities and games in maths. From multiplication to number bonds and sequences to fractions there has been plenty of learning going on and some real excitement about developing our skills in maths.

Expedition

We have continued to look at states of matter during our expedition lessons and have looked at how we can alter the time it takes for solutes to dissolve. There were some surprises during our investigation but these have certainly been some of the more exciting sessions that we have had. Did you know that rice is insoluble in water but does change the colour of the water?

Crew

We are continuing to develop our teamwork in crew through the use of COJO and Scotty’s Heroes as well as our daily reflections about our learning. It has been great to see us taking more time to support each other and this was most evident when trying to learn our Bulgarian numbers. They’re a lot harder than they look! This also gave us a little insight into how it feels trying something unfamiliar and the importance of having support to help us to get things right. We’re sure that we can build on this throughout the year!

Our Weekly Reflection

We have had a lot of success this week (including some extra break time for beating our HoWL score from last week) and there has been plenty of praises within the crew. Here are just a few of the praises and wonders that we have discussed:

“I praise Ivan for focusing on his learning today and completing our work in expedition.”

”I praise Freya for showing us how to be a good sportsperson when we don’t win at something.”

“I praise everyone for trying to learn a little Bulgarian.”

”I praise Gabriel for making us laugh a lot today.”

”I wonder if we can help each other to focus by not talking as much.”

Have a wonderful weekend everyone and we’re looking forward to another exciting (and shorter) week next week!
