Today in Crew Nursery we have been getting creative in the playdough, we made Christmas trees and snowmen, some of the children used cutters and to make star biscuits!
Today Stripes the Elf noticed Arabella and Lily Grace playing with the nativity set together and sharing the figures, Alexus helping Archie to find his shoes and Lincoln sharing a book with Daliyah, then reading it to the teddies together!

Today in Crew Nursery we’ve had a very exciting, busy day! We’ve worked really hard to decorate our classroom and put up the Christmas tree as a surprise for our friends when they come back to school on Monday!
Stripes the Elf is very proud of how kind all the children have been today, helping each other, sharing decorations and working hard as a crew. Well done Crew Nursery!
It is non-uniform for Crew Gerrard only (Year 3) after winning the treat on our Howl-opoloy spin last week! 🙂
Today Stripes saw Macey hang another child’s coat up and Archie tidy up the construction blocks, even though he had not been playing with them! Stripes noticed that Aubree was helpful all day and showed kindness towards her friends by helping them with their learning activities. Aubree was our HOWL hero today!
Stripes was blown away by the pictures that Crew Nursery drew of him! The children showed good listening skills by following step-by-step instructions and they worked hard to concentrate on their learning!
Stripes also enjoyed playing ‘teachers’ with some of the children today. Penelope gathered some of her friends for a crew circle and played the crew leader. She reminded the children how they could be kind at school.
Crew nursery experienced a soft play session in the school hall this morning! They practised their climbing, balancing and jumping skills and they worked as mini-crews to build towers and complete obstacle courses. What lucky children!
We’ve been very busy today in Crew Welburn. We had a special visitor in this morning to help us with our artwork! Natasha Clarke is a local artist who was helping us to perfect our sketching and painting skills ready for our final products!
Then, this afternoon, we got to decorate our classroom ready for Christmas! 🎅🏼 It was very exciting and we loved being able to spend time building our relationships as a crew.
Today, LKS2 have used coordinates on maps to plot the journey of Afghan refugees and how they can travel. Their journey can take them through several countries, such as Iran, Italy and France, before they eventually reach us. Well done guys!
A very special visitor has joined our crew! The children have decided to call him Stripes and he is our Kindness Elf.
Stripes will be staying with us throughout December and looking out for the children’s acts of kindness, he will keep note of these in his special book and we will share them during crew time.
Today, Stripes noticed Kai and Ralphie working really hard together to sweep up the sand, Jackson was very kind and helped Leon to zip up his coat and Layla shared the ball with Daliyah.
Well done for being kind!
We have loved our visit to Danum Gallery and getting the chance to see some steam locomotives up close. Thankfully it was a little bit warmer than yesterday!
After what seemed like we’d been walking forever, we made it to Adwick Station in time to do a spot of train watching before our train arrived. We saw two high-speed Azuma trains (which were made in Doncaster) shoot by and a diesel locomotive pulling containers as well as learning a little bit more about the markings on the platform, the departure board and what the signals meant. Boarding our train was a new experience for some of us and the gap was a little intimidating. We managed it though, and were quick to find some seats.
We snaked our way through Doncaster and enjoyed looking at all the Christmas decorations that were on show. Walking through Sir Nigel Gresley Square, we were shocked by the colours of the council building before arriving at Danum Gallery. Did you know there’s also a children’s library there? We didn’t!
After leaving our coats and bags in the Paddington Room (the first bear was made in Doncaster), we headed down to the basement for our workshop. Underneath the impressive Green Arrow, we listened to the story of how all the train memorabilia was collected before being sent on a nameplate hunt. There were loads! Some were named after royals, others were animals and one was even named after Doncaster Rovers!
Our next activity was to find some more information about the two real steam locomotives on show. There was the Green Arrow, designed by Sir Nigel Gresley and the No. 251, which was designed by Henry Ivatt. They were huge!
Our last activity was looking at artefacts from the early days of trains. A quick hunt warmed us up before we had to try and guess the purpose of a selection in front of us.
After lunch, we got to explore a bit more of the museum and we enjoyed some of the more interactive activities available as well as seeing some of the history behind Doncaster. It’s strange to think that so much has happened in our little town.
Once we had seen everything, it was time to head back to school. If the walk in the morning was long, this one went on forever! After what must have been years of walking, and lots of cajoling from the adults, we did finally make it back onto the right train and back to school. There were so many highlights that you’ll have to ask us yourself which part was our favourite but there’s one thing that we all agree on…we’ll sleep well tonight!
Crew MI have been working hard on their art skills, particularly their sketching techniques. Children have now produced their final sketch of the Flying Scotsman which are all fantastic. We are incredibly proud of how children showed such resilience and really thought about attention to detail. Here are a few examples!
