LKS2 Hook Day 1 (19.4.22) 🍭🍬
Today, LKS2 have been figuring out their guiding question for the Summer Expedition. We played a game of hangman to figure out what it was. This was great fun trying to guess what it could be and we managed to get there!
After having the Guiding Question revealed, Why is the history of sugar not so sweet?, we started our KWL by writing down what we knew about sweets and what we would like to know. It was great to hear questions like why does sugar energise us, how does sugar melt in water and who discovered sugar? LKS2 can’t wait to find these out over the next few weeks.
Finally, Year 3 and 4 then watched some videos about how sweets are made. We were mesmerised by how rock was made, as well as candy canes. We even wondered if we would be able to visit a sweet factory or make our own. Keep your eyes peeled! 👀👀

Happy Easter everyone! 🐣 We hope you have had an amazing day in the sunshine.
We had a great surprise this morning, our first butterflies 🦋 appeared! We have ensured they are happy with some juicy fruit and water and will be releasing them soon.
We have 3 cocoons still waiting to pop (shouldn’t be too long now), as soon as we have all of the beautiful butterflies together we will set them free. It has been amazing seeing their transformations.
Have a lovely night and see you all soon.

We’re so excited to immerse ourselves into our expedition next week!

Well, we now have 5 cocoons and have gently transferred the very wriggly cocoons into the butterfly net.
We had to carefully remove all the caterpillar webbing to ensure the butterflies won’t get caught in them when they hatch. It was a nervous process, ensuring we didn’t disturb the cocoons.
Hopefully it won’t be too much longer to wait until we see wings!

Hope everyone is enjoying their half term!
I just wanted to give a little update on the caterpillars of crew FE. 🐛
We now have cocoons! 3 fat caterpillars have made their way to the top of the tub to create their cocoons and 2 more wriggly caterpillars are still enjoying the food before turning themselves.
Once all 5 caterpillars have spun their cocoons they will be transferred to the butterfly net. Can’t wait to see them transform!
Happy Easter Crew Shields

A huge well done to Crew Shields for this last term. It’s been busy but we’ve crammed lots of learning in and I’m confident this will continue next term. Have a well deserved rest and be safe. Hope you have a wonderful Easter Break.
Final Week of expedition – 1/4/22
Wow! It has been such a busy week in Crew Shields as we completed our final products. I was extremely impressed with the children’s dedication to bringing items in for their design. They conducted themselves in a mature and safe manner to ensure they kept not only themselves safe but also others.
I am beyond proud of how they have done and we’re super excited for you to see the final product! No doubt you’ll be as impressed as myself and Mrs Smith are with them.

A great day had by all at Tropical World. Some great questions and discussions as we walked around. Lovely to hear the children discussion their learning while observing animals we have discussed during our expedition lessons.
