Crew MW have been exploring mass in maths today. We have been using our scales to weigh objects and compare which one is heavy and which one is light. We were really good at using our mathematical language to compare!

Fab writers in Y1!
In this mornings writing lesson I have been so impressed with the following children for their beautiful handwriting and fab ideas! We have been working really hard in our writing lessons to become better Y1 writers and we really are starting to show everything that we have learnt.

Roman Writers
We have worked extremely hard to complete our first piece of independent writing about the Romans. We have learned all about how to be a Roman soldier and chunked our writing so that we could explain this in a non-chronological report. We worked hard to edit and improve our work, focusing on ensuring our capital letters and full stops were in the right places, as well as fixing our spellings. Some of us even used conjunctions and extended our sentences. Once we were fully happy, we completed a redraft for our plot points and wrote them out into an entire paragraph.
Crew MW’s School Trip!
What a wonderful day we’ve had at Austerfield! We started our day with an exciting bus journey where we drove through Doncaster and saw lots of new and exciting buildings including the Minster and train station and we even saw a police van!
When we got to Austerfield, we went on an adventure in the woods and collected lots of natural resources to create some artwork with in the afternoon. We explored the hills, the sand, the muddy puddles and the Christmas trees and we found lots of toadstools, berries and pine cones!
Then we enjoyed some delicious dinner!
After lunch, we used our natural resources to create some artwork and to make potions!
We had a lovely day, but we’re definitely ready for a sleep now!
Crew MW’s weekly library visit 📚
Crew MW took our weekly trip to the library last Wednesday. We enjoyed our milk and snack while we sat and read a story called ‘There’s a dragon in your book!’ by Tom Fletcher. We then voted between two stories to bring back to our classroom to read at story time the next day. We loved our trip to the library! 📚

Crew Emmerson have been getting creative!
We have been exploring our senses and listening to lots of new sounds! We have also been engaging in 1:1 activities for longer bursts! Look how well we are settling into our new crew.
Crew Marsh get Arty 👩🎨
During our writing lesson, some children access labs of learning to enhance their knowledge of vocabulary which they then use in their pieces of writing. Today the children were shown how to use the iPads to access a QR code which then led to a step by step video teaching them how to draw Little Red Riding Hood. The children worked in pairs to do this and all worked extremely hard to use these new skills and produced a great piece of art work!

During todays writing lesson the children were thinking about how Little Red Riding Hood traveled to see her Grandma and what she might have seen during her journey. They used their phonics skills to write the words and used small world figures and blocks to create the cottages. There was lots of great vocabulary during this activity which enabled the children to create brilliant sentences! What a great lesson we’ve had today ✍️
