KS1 had a fantastic time yesterday at Campsmount competing in the multi-skills completion. We were so proud of how the children competed, showed resilience and supported their crew. We even got a little gift from the North Pole!

This week, we have started our Christmas art slice. We began by learning about the artist Vincent Van Gough and critiqued some of his most famous pieces. We then explored and tried out different techniques using acrylic paint.

After that, we consolidated our sketching techniques.

With our skills practised, we were ready to begin out first draft of our final piece.

We then did a gallery walk and offered critique to further improve our next draftβ¦ but youβll have to wait for thoseβ¦
Our crew challenge for this week was to work together in mini crews to complete a jigsaw. We developed our team work skills, communication and listening skills to work together to see which team could complete the jigsaw the fastest. Throughout the challenge, we debriefed to discuss what was working well and what we thought we needed to improve. This helped come up with strategies like sorting the pieces, doing the edges first, each team member trying to complete a different section of the jigsaw to then put together at the end.

Some of us are still finding tying our shoelaces a challenge so Crew Boswell worked with a partner to teach each other how to tie our shoelaces. We had show to show good communication, perseverance and lots of patience. We hope to now be able to teach some of the younger children in our school.

Today we finished our art slice and I am incredibly proud of every member of MI. We found this piece of art extremely challenging however we showed great resilience and continued to keep going. We have really developed our skills around critique, giving others feedback that can then be used to improve their work. We gave some great praises, notices and wonders which has helped us with our final piece. The improvements we made after practising different parts of the picture were incredible and we learnt that art takes lots of time, dedication and commitment. We learnt that taking our time is key and that this is ok. We look forward to our next art slice and continuing to build on the skills we have developed during this piece. Well done everyone, I am super proud of your final pieces.

Crew Hamill have continued with their art work this week, creating a second draft based on peer critique. We looked at our first drafts and gave our peers a praise, notice and wonder for them. We then used these to begin our second draft, ensuring we responded to our critique to make improvements.

It has been lovely finding out what children have been working on across school. Well done to all the children who have shared their beautiful work with me over the last 2 weeks. Some fantastic work π

Today in crew we explored why we are proud to be British citizens and then amazing things that make Britain great. We looked at famous landmarks, traditions and the people who inspire us to work hard in order to get smart. Kaison expressed heβs going to try hard in PE to challenge Sir Mo Farrah to a race! Riley suggested that our Christmas traditions make our country great and they bring our families together. What makes you proud to be British?

In our experience lesson we each made a mouse so we could put it in our shoe for their new house just like in the story The Smartest Giant in town. We loved reading this book again and found it funny that George the giant had to hop away because he has given one of his shoes.

Today in our art lesson we did our first and second drafts of our Pablo Picasso snowmen. We thought about the features of a snowman and then how we could use the shapes we had seen in Picasso’s artwork to make our own cubist snowman. After our first and second drafts we worked in pairs to offer critique that was kind, specific and helpful. Well done Crew Robson, I can’t wait to see your 3rd drafts tomorrow!
