Citizenship crew in MI

Today we started to talk about our responsibilities towards a team. We thought about why it is important that everyone on a team fulfils their responsibilities. We worked in mini crews to think about what our responsibilities are as children. We thought about what these may be in school, at home and whilst in the local community. We produced an anchor chart with all our ideas. We then thought about how these compare to adults. We discussed respect in more detail and respecting the rights of others, caring for others and also standing up for our rights in the correct way. Some great discussions MI 🙂

Blitz poetry in MI

Today we used all the knowledge we have gained over our last few expeditionary lessons to create poems on the Blitz. First of all we created an anchor chart together with lots of different language on the Blitz, some examples included damage, emotional, community and homes. We then looked at different nouns that linked to the Blitz. From here we added a verb to each of our nouns. Some of the crew then looked at prepositional phrases and added an example to further develop our sentence. We then went a step further adding some different similes to our poems. There were some fantastic ideas today, great work MI 🙂

‘To have’ verb

Today in grammar, we have been learning about the ‘to have’ verb. We learned that the ‘to have’ verb shows when you own something or hold something.

Has is used when talking about 1 noun.
Have is used for more than one as well as with you and I.
Had is used to show the past tense.

Wartime Food – Cauliflower Pie

Last week, we made Cauliflower pie using basic ingredients. This was an opportunity for us to get a feel for what it was like during the war and the challenges there would have been due to rationing. Everyone pushed the self out if their comfort zone and tried it. There were mixed reviews. Some enjoyed the crunchy top while others preferred the soft inside. Some were pleasantly surprised to discover that they actually really enjoyed it and had seconds.

Number Lines

Last week, we became a human number line to help us understand the different intervals. We started quite simple so children could understand that each person went up a set amount. Once we were feeling more confident with it, we missed some numbers out and children had to work together to figure out the missing intervals.
