Today we started our Christmas art slice. We started by thinking about the types of paint that can be used in art. We then thought about when we use each type and we explored a range of pictures. We thought about the look the paint gives, the colours that are used along with the techniques. We also offered our own critique based on the pictures. We were then introduced to the artist we will study for this art slice- Vincent Van Gogh. We watched a clip and built background knowledge before creating a class anchor chart. We then looked at a variety of Vincent’s work thinking about what we can see, how the art makes us feel, the techniques that have been used and we thought about what Vincent was trying to express. Our exit ticket allowed us to find different people in the room, voicing facts about Vincent.
Our second lesson allowed us to explore and experiment with different acrylic techniques. We watched a clip to help guide us through the techniques then we thought about Vincent’s art work and the techniques he used. We evaluated each technique thinking about which were reasonably straight forward and which proved a little more difficult. Finally our exit ticket allowed us to offer critique for improvement to others.

Today we started our new unit all about money. To recap what we learnt in Yr1 we matched coins and amount and then played a game on the iPad to reinforce our learning. Well done Crew Robson!
We are really enjoying our class read… ‘Explorer’ and are taking it in turns each day to read a bit to the class. This has been really effective in improving our fluency and expression.

This week we had lots of fun exploring how to insert sound clips using scratch. We recorded sounds and then coded these so that our sprites were saying or playing them. Some of us even challenged ourselves to put these in an order so that they played at different times.

We are so proud of our children in KS1, today, we completed our Santa Dash to raise money for Hallam FM, Cash for Kids. The children were so excited to be ‘heroes’ in their community and help those children who are not as fortunate this Christmas. The children raised an incredible £306 pound in total, including the bake sale earlier in the term. We’d like to thank all of our parents and families for your support, we enjoyed having you with us today. The children were thrilled to have raised so much money. We can’t wait to buy and wrap the gifts to donate 💕 Here’s a couple of sneaky peaks 🎅

So in Crew Haddock the children had an old student come into school (Kodi) and showed them some basic boxing skills. The children really enjoyed this and really looking forward to some more 🥊

Crew MW had a lovely time decorating the classroom for Christmas this afternoon! We loved choosing which baubles we wanted to put on the tree and then climbing up onto the stool to reach the top. We think the trees look beautiful! 🎄

During our celebration of learning, we were able to show our grown ups everything we have learnt during expedition this term. We shared our guiding question “Why should Doncaster remember the Romans?”. We then took it in turns to share what we had learnt in our 3 case studies (Geography, History and Science). Grown ups got the opportunity to look through our writing and expedition books to see our non-chronological report and diaries. We then shared our final product and had a browse through this. We are all really proud of how well this has turned out!
