Oh we do like to be beside the seaside!

What a fantastic day we had at the seaside! The weather was on our side as we enjoyed a dry day in Cleethorpes.

We explored the beach, collecting treasure we found such as sand, shells and seaweed to bring back to the classroom to support our Expedition learning.

On our walk towards the pier we were lucky enough to catch the Coastguards working on their equipment. They very kindly showed us some of their equipment and explained what used it for.

After a picnic on the beach we went on the hunt for an ice cream whilst taking in the sights and sounds of the coastline – delicious!

The children represented Carcroft School brilliantly and thoroughly enjoy their day.

Crew FE would like to say a huge thank you to our parents and staff in school for ensuring the day could go ahead.

Slavery Source Investigation (4.5.22) 🕵️🕵️‍♂️

Today, LKS2 have been critiquing different historical sources from the past. The children looked at primary sources that Slave Traders used to sell and promote the sale of slaves right through to drawings of slave ships and human cargo. We also investigated a range of secondary sources, looking at artistic representations in slavery. We compared what it was like for African and Chinese slaves, discussing what was similar and different.

The insights were interesting and there was a buzz of discussions as we noticed, inferred and even wondered what was happening. This was a great lesson full of fantastic discussions about slavery through these valuable sources. This is helping us to understand Why sugar is not so sweet!

Picnic Planning in Crew FE

The children in Crew FE have had a jam packed day – literally!

We began the day by thinking about what we would choose to take in a picnic to the seaside, and why some items would be better suited than others. The children quickly decided that items such as tins of beans wouldn’t be any good in our picnic as we probably wouldn’t have anywhere to cook them! Children had lots of ideas of what they would like to take such as apples, oranges, donuts and sandwiches and we discussed which would be the healthier choices.

After that, we put our spreading skills to the test and made some delicious jam sandwiches! There were some great discussions about how to use the knife safely and the different shapes we could cut the sandwich into. Then came the best bit – eating them!
