Ian’s Farm 🐑

7th March 2023A Welburn

Today, we had a super exciting visit from Ian the farmer! Ian brought lots of his animals with him, and we got to stroke them, ask questions about them, and we even fed them some carrots! We loved seeing all of the different animals as part of our hook day ready for Case Study 3 – What happens to creatures as they grow? We learnt all about the names of the animals, what their babies are called, and how Ian looks after them on the farm.

Today we have started our first draft of our artwork for our final product. To say these are our first drafts we are very proud of our beautiful work already! We had three groups: some children decided to draw a mic with the help of Miss Taylor (to represent MLKs speech) which was for children less confident with art, the next group worked step by step with me to draw George Floyd and the last group lead their own learning by pushing for 4 and challenged themselves to follow an online tutorial drawing Martin Luther King.

MI have shown such resilience and determination today during our art sessions. We finally learnt and started to understand that art is a long process and we need to ensure we take our time to ensure we create quality pieces. MI have certainly shown this today. We have used a step by step process to create our Martin Luther King Jr images and children were super proud at the end of the day. We will just add further sketching techniques tomorrow to finish off our creations. We will then move onto looking at Rosa Parks 🙂 Great work MI!

Today, we had a very exciting visit from Ian’s Farm! He told us lots of interesting information about the animals and he let us stroke them which we loved! We told Ian everything we already knew about the animals he had brought in, and we enjoyed listening to him tell us even more facts that we can use in our new case study. Ian also brought his sheepdog Meg who was the best behaved dog we have ever met – we want our own dog for school now, I wonder if Mrs Atherton will let us get one?! Ian told us about the commands we could use to control what Meg was doing and we practiced using them, but we weren’t as good as Ian. We had the chance to brush the donkeys and goats, and some of us played fetch with Meg on the field. We had so much fun! Thank you so much for a brilliant morning, Ian!


MI start case study 3

Today we started our art case study where we explored and used a range of sketching techniques. First we looked at and used different sketching pencils thinking about tone and how different pencils do this. We then explored tone further by thinking about the pressure we apply to our pencil. After this we looked at 7 different sketching techniques and had a go at practising these. From he we researched the artist Edgar Degas, thinking about the type of artist he is and the different pieces of art he created. The final part of the lesson allowed us to apply all the features we had learnt to a Edgar Degas image. We tried to use some of the techniques we had practised earlier in the lesson.
