In maths, we started our measurements unit and kicked off the lessons by measuring things around the classroom in cm and m. We used a rule, metre stick and even a trundle wheel for the corridor. The children had lots of fun doing this and give them practical experience of measuring.
Lots of consolidation in magic maths today 🙂 We recapped some of the place value learning we had done back at the start of the year along with some problems around perimeter and statistics. Great work MI 🙂


In maths, we started to learn more about dividing. We got the concrete resources out and shared the blocks into equal groups! We really enjoyed doing this and could answer a variety of dividing questions!



A great start to our maths lesson today with our magic maths questions. We consolidated our knowledge when using symbols to show if numbers are bigger than, smaller than or equal to other numbers. We then moved onto our problem of the day, using the knowledge we gained last week when using money. We then consolidated our learning on pictograms. The main lesson was looking at multiplication word problems. We unpicked lots of questions together, working well in mini crews to discuss if the problem was multiplication and what we had to do to solve it. We are getting much more confident when identifying the operation needed. We look forward to continuing with this on Wednesday.






We are still working hard demonstrating our knowledge of our fractions unit, with a particular focus on improving our reasoning and problem solving skills.






This week in magic maths we have been assessing our understanding of timetables before introducing our Timetables Stick next week which we are very excited for! I’ve been impressed by the collaboration and resilience shown by the children to complete some tricky, timed challenges. We have been developing our understanding of our six times table and ended the week with a race against the clock. Could we recall our number facts, in a sentence, then record the answer? Sharni-Mae and Declan achieved this with 37 seconds to spare!


Today we consolidated our learning from yesterday by adding money amounts mentally. We then moved onto adding amounts using a written method and found change! We loved visiting Crew MI’s shop, choosing different items we wanted to buy.





Before starting our money unit in maths, we had the opportunity to play with the money so we’d feel more confident recognising the coins. While working with our partner, we gave them an amount of money and they had to count how much they had. This encouraged us to count in multiples of 1,2,5,10,20 and 50 supporting our understanding of place value.






Today we started to explore coins and notes in our maths lesson. We made different money amounts and started to think about how we set out money when adding them together! We are ready to visit Crew MI’s shop tomorrow where we will start to buy different food items 🙂
