Hooking in to Expedition!

This week, Crew Welburn are hooking in to our new expedition! We are looking at the expedition ‘How do things grow and change?’ and we are starting with the case study, ‘How can I help my body to grow?’ We begun our day by thinking about foods that help us to grow and how healthy foods are good for our bodies. We did some taste testing of different fruits, made some delicious fruit kebabs and voted for our favourite fruit! We loved tasting all of the different fruits, but our most popular with 11 votes was grapes!

XP outdoors!

This week in crew, Miss Welburn set us a challenge to see if we could make our outdoor area a little bit tidier and safer by sweeping up the leaves and using the litter pickers to put any rubbish in the bin. We did a fantastic job, working together as a crew, and our outdoor area looks much better now 😁

Maths in MI

Our maths lesson started with an active starter to consolidate the work we have been doing converting between fractions and decimals 🙂 We had to use our maths skills and clear questioning to find our partner in the room!

Here you can see us all completing our hinge question on ordering decimals. Such focus in MI this morning. So many children completing reasoning and problem solving questions today 🙂

Nursery hook week – Tasting fruit and making fruit kebabs 🍇🍈🍌🫐

This morning in Crew McGlone, we had a fruit tasting session! We tried a number of different fruits: banana, grapes, melon, nectarines and blueberries. We noticed that some of the fruits were juicy, some were even a little bit slippery and kept jumping out of our fingers! We worked on talking to our peers using full sentences by saying which fruit was our most favourite and which was our least favourite.

In provision we chose our favourite fruits to add to our wooden skewer to make a fruit kebab. We had to be really careful with the pointed end of the skewer and we tried really hard to concentrate so that the fruit went on and did not fall off.

Then came the best part… snack time! We got to enjoy our kebabs with milk at snack time. We talked about whether our kebabs were tasty or not and what our favourite bit was to eat! There was even spare fruit that we got to share between us as an extra treat! Yummy! 😋

News Broadcast

During Hook week, the children had to produce a short broadcast on a news topic of their choice. They completed some research and wrote their own script. When this was complete, they practiced before videoing their broadcast.

Consider the short length of time they had to complete this, I feel they did a great job. There were 20 raffle tickets each for the group that were voted the best. The group that won were voted the best as they had really thought about the process and features they have seen in real broadcasts.

You can access the video by using the QR code. Happy viewing.

Interviews for ambassador

This week, we shortlisted some children for the role of School Ambassadors after they had completed an application form which stated why they were suitable for the role.

The candidates were shortlisted and sent home with 4 questions that they would be asked in the interview. They could prepare their answer and then we asked these questions in Crew.

It was lovely to heat them talk so positively about school and how one child described crew as a family who is always there for them.

We appointed 4 ambassadors and a reserve encase anyone is ever absent. Their training will start next week with Mrs Rhodes so they are confident taking on this role.

Huge well done Ambassadors.

KS1 Book bags

Just a reminder, please can you unsure book bags are brought into school everyday and their books will be changed every Friday. We are wanting to monitor how many times children are reading at home and celebrate those children who are doing this 4 times.
