Maths – 14/10/22

Crew Shields have really had to engage their brains this morning in Maths as we tackled some sums that required more than one exchange. This was made a little trickier especially when there was a zero in the number because we have to exchange from another column. Despite being tricky for a Friday morning, it didn’t faze them and they have given it 100% as always. Great effort everyone!

School Trip Day!

We’ve had such an amazing time on our school trip today! We’ve made fries and took them to the enchanted forest, searched for bears in the woods and made porridge for our Goldilocks and the Three Bears story. Our teachers were really impressed with our listening ears and looking eyes to make sure we were being safe and working hard, and Sharon from Austerfield Study Centre said that she had loved having us for the day! We can’t wait until our next trip 🚌

Comparing numbers in KS1

Crew Godley mathematicians have been busy comparing numbers and exploring the language ‘greater than, less than and equals too’. We’ve used our crocodile 🐊 hands to help us.

Fascinating Forces

We started the week researching different types of forces. We got hands on to demonstrate these to develop a deeper understanding before we are going to focus on these individually later on in the week.

We now can explain and demonstrate gravity, friction, water resistance and air resistance 🤩

Crew Boswell Challenge You!

Tuesday is our challenge crew and we had a tricky one this week.

It was called, Photo Finish. The aim? For the whole crew to cross a line together for a photo finish. We needed to focus on communication and coordination. Maybe you could try it over half term with your families for a unique family photo? Here’s how…

  1. Find a line.
  2. Work out how you’re going to cross the finish line at the same time.
  3. Film your finish line and check to see if you have succeeded.
  4. For an added challenge, can you run across the line at the same time?

Here’s how we got on.

Our first attempt. What critique do you have? What do you praise, notice or wonder?
Our final attempt. Do you have any praise, notices or wonders?

Investigating gravity in MI

Today we looked at a Newton meter and measured the force acting on different objects. We worked collaboratively to do this and used the scale to read the amount of newtons.

Using our knowledge so far we then thought about what we could do to test gravity. This became our aim. This was what we wanted to find out. We then thought about what a hypothesis was and its purpose. We thought about how this would help our investigation. We then wrote our own hypothesis.

From here we took part in the investigation testing out our aim and hypothesis. You can see us in action below… We were all shocked by what we found out!
