New Starters to Carcroft Crew

We have had a lovely morning in Crew Ferguson this morning, meeting and exploring the provision with our grownups. The children have had the opportunity to share the resources and play with new children who are going to be in their crew.

We then circled up together to read a story whilst having milk and fruit. The grownups in nursery have been really impressed with how well the children sat and shared their ideas.

We can’t wait to see everyone in August!

Year 3/4 transition week update!

What a great start to our new Year 3/4 classes. After a bit of settling in, we have been able to complete some Crew building activities. We built spaghetti and marshmallow towers – the aim was to build the highest structure we could with the same amount of items. This has helped us feel more comfortable with each other!

Throughout the week, so far, we have also been looking at the book Small Things. We have been having many discussions about feelings and worries, in order to help settle us. These interesting discussions have been a fantastic way of getting to know our new Crews and how we can help them feel better when they aren’t quite feeling themselves!

Keep your eyes peeled for the rest of the week, where we will share our sketches of London monuments. This is preparing us for our new Expedition in Autumn! 👀👀

Bullying poems

Today Crew Shields have been working on writing poems about the negatives of bullying. This is building on from the learning we started yesterday after watching a video that had themes around bullying and disabilities. We’ve discussed how we should build each other up, not tear them down.

Marvellous Maths

Great fun had by all this morning as practiced our timetables. Children were able to play board games that allowed them to use their timetable knowledge but also demonstrate their be kind howl. So lovely seeing the children working together while also supporting each other to be successful.

Summer Sleepover 2022! ☀️

On Friday 8th July we had our Summer Sleepover at Carcroft! Once we arrived, we got our sleeping areas set up and settled into the classroom before heading outside to play in the gorgeous weather ☀️We enjoyed playing out on the playground before heading inside to have a takeaway pizza and chips 🍕🍟 Afterwards, we battled each other on Kahoot before the staff team joined in and managed to sneak into the lead to take the win! 💪🏻

As a crew we tidied up before settling down to watch Sing 2 with a bag of crisps and a biscuit, before we knew it it was time for lights out! There were many excitable children so getting to sleep was a loooooooong process! 😴

5:30am was apparently the perfect time to wake up (although the staff definitely disagreed!) and after a slow start it was time for breakfast before packing up and being collected by parents.

It was a super fun evening and the children certainly enjoyed themselves!

Time in new crews with our families…

This morning we opened our doors to our families, it was so lovely to have families back in school with us. In KS1 (Y1&2), the children worked with their adults to create a range of structures using a range of materials. It was so lovely to see parents collaborating with their child and I know the children loved it too. Thank you to all those parents who attended this morning and we look forward to having more of you in school with us this week.

A carousel of maths in MI

Before we started transition week, we got to work on some times tables practise. We took part in a carousel of activities including bingo with Mrs McClare, rapid recall of all our times tables, times tables rockstar work and a number card game. We worked against a timer, pushing ourselves whilst concentrating on each task. Great work Crew MI šŸ™‚

Transition – Crew Mcloughlin 22/23

We have had a lovely first day settling in to Crew Mcloughlin🥰. We focused on our be kind HoWLs and how we can be the best version of ourselves. We also generated character traits that we want to see in our crew. We learnt that sometimes we may need to help each other along the way to ensure we present these, empower each other and by doing this we will create the best crew in school🤩.

What a great first day the children have had! I cannot wait for the rest of the week now.

Transition – New Crew Shields

It has been a lovely day in Crew Shields. We have spent some time reminding ourselves of the expectations which most children had remembered from Year 3. This led us into watching a short video where we inferred it was about bullying and the importance of being inclusive. We generated a range of qualities that we look for as a crew and as a good person and then children created a jigsaw piece with their chosen quality. It was great seeing the children working collaboratively and I’m looking forward to the rest of this week.
