LKS2 – Solids, liquids and gases (17.5.22) 👨‍🔬👩‍🔬

Today, LKS2 had a great day of learning about solids, liquids and gases. We first acted out how the particles move in these different states to fully understand how they move.

We then listed all the different types of solids, liquids and gases to see what range of types they could see. After this, we completed a worksheet showing off our learning and drew a diagram of the particles. Some of us even challenged ourselves to reach green to describe how particles move!

Another great day in crew Fox

Yesterday we gained a 3 in our HOWLs and have maintained this today too!

We have played rounders in the sunshine with lots of us getting full rounds – we have positive attitudes and challenged ourselves.

Have a look at our great sketches of the plague doctor. We are proud of our beautiful work.

Scoot to school! 🛴

Dear Parents/Carers,

I am delighted to let you know Carcroft School is participating in a Scoot to School scheme funded by Doncaster MBC. The school has received 20 scooters and helmets and scooter storage. These will be available to be used in school time by all pupils.

To celebrate the start of Scoot to School we are having a Scoot to School Day! It is a fun day that encourages children and their families to come to school on their scooters. We would love you all to get involved so if your child doesn’t have a scooter you can walk, cycle, or skate to school instead.

We know there are some things that make it more difficult for some pupils to get involved. If you would like to discuss more about your child(ren)’s specific needs, please contact (insert name) and we will make sure there is a way your child can take part.

Scoot to School Day will be taking place on Thursday 19th May 2022

What activities will be taking place on Scoot to School Day?

Wheel around school session: There will be a designated time and space for the children to be able to use their scooters, skates and bikes at school.

Dr Scoot: Active Travel Officer Chris Pryor will be carrying out scooter checks to ensure that they are safe and will make any minor repairs that are needed.

Launch the Scoot to School Challenge: each class will be competing to win the challenge by recording the most Scoot to School journeys over a 4 week period.

We really hope you can get involved and join in the fun.

Kind Regards,

Chris Pryor and Miss Marsh

Modeshift Active Travel Officer

Word Collecting

Today in Crew Welburn, we’ve had a focus on collecting adjectives for our writing. We are writing a description about our local area, so we took a walk to the park to listen to the sounds we could hear, and to describe what we could see. We wrote down loads of ideas and can’t wait to get writing tomorrow!

Collaborative Maths (10.5.22)🔢#️⃣

What a lovely lesson of maths we had today and so many fantastic “teachers” on show! We were practicing how to find fraction of amounts. Today was trickier than yesterday because we had to follow two steps. Divide by the denominator and multiply by the numerator.

We worked together to be able to help each other get smarter! The kindness on show and willingness to help each other was amazing to see. We certainly demonstrated our HoWLs today! The little “teachers” are now making me worried for my job!

Collaborative working in MI

Today we continued with our history work where we researched different illnesses as mini crews. We all worked collaboratively thinking about the two rubrics we had just discussed, this made us think more about team work and listening to others. After we had gathered our information we worked together thinking about how we would present our findings to the rest of the crew. Again we thought about our rubric and how we can engage an audience. We all presented extremely well, everyone participated and everyone listened well when the other groups shared their work. Finally, we applied our knowledge to a written task, here we showed all the learning we had just done.

Shin pads

I lent out shin pads to children in our last football tournament that we competed in a few months ago. If you have a pair at home please can you send them back to school as they are needed for our next tournament.

Thank you

Miss Marsh

Slavery Source Investigation (4.5.22) 🕵️🕵️‍♂️

Today, LKS2 have been critiquing different historical sources from the past. The children looked at primary sources that Slave Traders used to sell and promote the sale of slaves right through to drawings of slave ships and human cargo. We also investigated a range of secondary sources, looking at artistic representations in slavery. We compared what it was like for African and Chinese slaves, discussing what was similar and different.

The insights were interesting and there was a buzz of discussions as we noticed, inferred and even wondered what was happening. This was a great lesson full of fantastic discussions about slavery through these valuable sources. This is helping us to understand Why sugar is not so sweet!

Football rounders

Crew Fox achieved a 2.8 today. We have worked hard continuing our SATs and SLC preparation, showing lots of positive attitudes and good reflections. This afternoon we have played football rounders!
