Crew Nursery 2022!

We have had a brilliant first couple of days in crew nursery. The children have settled really well and have started to look at achieving 3.5 and 4 HOWLs daily. We have spoken about how to sit smart on the carpet and what this looks like. We have begun to explore the different areas and have really worked on our ”being kind” HOWL to share the resources and talk to our new friends.

We have today looked at ourselves and what makes each of us special. We have used a mirror to look closely at our faces and how we all have different features.

We have had a fantastic start to school life at Carcroft.

We Are Go For Launch!

It’s been a successful blast off for the Carcroft Cosmonauts as we journey to outer space (or Leicester). We expect to enter the National Space Centre’s atmosphere in just under an hour and can’t wait to view the stars from there! We’ll report back later. Out.

LKS2s first day back! 😃

LKS2 started their new academic year by completing a Crew circle. During that, we all shared lots of lovely, happy stories of our summer holidays: this included time playing in the pool and wonderful sounding holidays!

After this, we then went onto complete some maths and started by chanting our multiplications without any hesitation or signs that we had had a summer break. What impressed me even more was our knowledge of place value, which we will continue to explore in the coming weeks.

Once we had some fresh air to keep our brains fresh, we then went onto to look at images and illustrations from our new book. We had so many brilliant incites into the images and shared lots of clever inferences. I think we’ll be just fine when we get further into the book after todays showing!

During the afternoon, we started to explore the Hook Week part of our new Expedition. We’re trying to guess what our Guiding Question could be and I am interested to see what else we come up with throughout the rest of the week. We do, however, know that we are looking into the Second World War, which definitely perked up our interest as we looked at images from the War and relating to it. We worked collaboratively to come up with wonders and notices about these images. Ideas given were ’where could the children be going on the train?’ and ’that is a gas mask used in dangerous situations’. It was great to see such enthusiasm straight away!

First day back – Crew Shields

It has been such a pleasure having the children back in school today and making a fantastic start to what I’m sure will be a great year!

We started the morning with some crew building activities which are vital to a smooth running classroom. The children had to work on their communication skills so that they could firstly order themselves from tallest to shortest and then from oldest to youngest. For some they had to get down to the nitty gritty as we have 2 students born on the same day but fortunately they knew one was 10 hours older. Phew! Snowballs was our next crew building activities where children had to write a Would you rather or what would you do if question. Some great questions

E.g – Would you rather go to a football game or school? What would you do if you found £10 outside? Would you rather have a mansion or 1 million pounds?

Unfortunately, we didn’t have time for them all today but we will work through the rest during this week.

It was important to get the brain ticking again so we played some maths games that required us to think about place value. It was lovely seeing the children support each other if they found something a little tricky.

Overall, we’ve had a great first day back and I’m looking forward to our trip tomorrow.

Clubs

There are no clubs this week. Breakfast, Afterschool and Wraparound clubs will commence next week. More information will follow before the end of the week.

Y6 PE Days (Crew Mcloughlin/Crew Boswell/Crew MI)

Hope you are all having a lovely break!

Next week year 6 will have PE on just the Thursday, this is due to our very exciting trip to the National Space Centre on Wednesday😄 (details are all on parent pay incase you need a reminder of the times for this as children will need to be in school no later than 8am).

Then on a normal week our usual PE slots will be a Wednesday and a Friday.

Thank you,

Year 6 Crew.

UKS2 Final Product – Summer 2022

I can’t believe that we have come to the end of another Expedition and completed another fantastic final product. Our expedition for this term was ”How can a healthy lifestyle impact our body and mind?” We completed a history, science and DT case study. These subjects allowed us to explore how medicine has changed, the circulatory system and our cooking and baking skills. The children marvelled at the weird and wonderful things used to treat illnesses during the plague. They were even given the opportunity to gain a basic first aid certificate. During DT, they loved cooking and especially the tasting of the food. The children have been fortunate to have lots of opportunities to do hands on learning.

Our final product was to create an informative video for the public and as this was a trust product, we were all given a section to complete. Carcroft were allocated the mental health section of the video and I know this is a topic we spend lots of time on as we understand the importance of good mental health.

At the moment, we have been unable to confirm where this video will be played on a permanent basis but this is being discussed and negotiated. Once this has been confirmed, we will ensure that we inform you of this.

We hope you enjoy our Mental Health video for our final product
