Monday ✔

What a great start to the week! We have worked so hard today to get smart in our expeditionary learning today 😊 We have explored healthy eating today and how we can make good food choices. Lydia blew me away when she exclaimed we needed to take water ‘to keep us hydrated’.

We decided to test our sequencing and fine motor skills today by making a sandwich to take on our space picnic with us. This was tricky as we had to remember lots of things! For example, washing our hands, gathering our equipment and lastly which seemed to be the part everyone remembered, eating the sandwich!

HoWL Heroes:

Getting Smart: Todays HoWL heroes were Roseanne and Evelynn. These two little stars are a credit to Crew Godley. They make me smile every day with their positive attitudes, beautiful work and ‘green’ standard learning behaviours.

HoWL score:

Today I was absolutely thrilled we finished on a fantastic 3.02! Especially on a Monday when we’re settling back into routines after the weekend. Keep up the great work Crew Godley!

I was impressed today by the children’s determination to succeed and praise each other. We had some fantastic shout outs in our Crew at the end of the day. I’m so pleased with how mature our littlest of people are 💕

Tuesday ✅

We’ve worked really hard today in Crew Godley to make sure we are applying our learning independently and working collaboratively to help each other. We’ve had some lovely discussion today in our ‘perfect partners’. We discussed which items astronauts would need to take to space with them. We decided an astronaut would need a helmet as there was no oxygen on the moon and that a football wouldn’t be much use due to the lack of gravity. Great work Crew Godley 🌟✨🌟

HOWL Heroes:

Work hard: Kyla 👏

Get smart: Freddie 👏

Be kind: Logan 👏

HOWL Score: 2.8 with such a good day yesterday I thought we were onto a winning week! We reflected at the end of the day and unfortunately a few crew members didn’t work hard, being kind. However tomorrow is a fresh day and I’m sure we can get the score back up to a three, at least 😊

We have had a wonderful first day back with our full crew after lockdown 3.0! We are so glad everyone has re-joined us in school and we have worked so hard today on all of our learning! We even got a special certificate and reward for all of our hard work over the last lockdown! It was very exciting! It was so lovely to hear lots of our crew members exclaiming that they’d share it with their families, we have such kind little people in our crew!

Highlight of the Day:

Our highlight of the day was having Sheldon back in the classroom with us. He has enjoyed his lockdown with Harold 🐢 and was so happy to be reunited with his crew.

Howl Heroes:

Work Hard: This goes to George for coming back after months of working at home and getting straight back into his work – he produced some lovely writing about Sheldon.

Get Smart: This goes to Roseanne today for consistently displaying green standard across all of our lessons today – keep it up Roseanne!

Howl Average:

3 – We have started the week off strongly, a few reminders given for listening ears and showing green standard on the carpet but those children know they need to work on this, lets aim for 3.5 for the end of the week! I am confident we can achieve this.

Terrific Tuesday ☺️

I’ve had a beaming smile on my face today, our crew have worked so hard collaborating and working hard to be kind to one another. We have had a few blips over the past couple of weeks however I felt today we’ve really come together to show we are truly ‘crew’. I have seen some fantastic collaboration in which children were working as a pair or a group to create rockets, play mathematical games and help one another solve phonics puzzles. I’m am so proud of you all and can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.

This afternoon we shared a text, ‘There is an alien in my book’. We found that the alien was in a predicament just as the alien we are helping at school was. We decided it was time to get the alien home and there was only one way to do it! Get training to go into space, the children suggested we had to be really fit so needed to exercise daily. Children worked together to decide on what exercises we would need to do and we will continue to do these as well as our space mile 🏃‍♀️

HoWL heroes:

Today I gave our assistant crew leaders a little more responsibility. I asked them to observe throughout the day who they thought were demonstrating our HoWLS effectively.

Skyla and SJ worked so well together to decide who they thought deserved a HoWL.

They chose…..

Being Kind – Noah and Summer. They had observed these two children outside being kind to one and mother sharing resources without help from the adults. I was so pleased to hear this ☺️

I chose SJ for ‘getting smart’ as after a rocky start at phonics yesterday he absolutely blew Mrs Brown away today with his determination and resilience. Well done, SJ keep it up.

Todays HoWL score was an improvement on yesterday at 2.8. We are so close to that 3! The crew praised their peers for being so honest when reflecting on the day. Well done everyone ❤️

Crew Ferguson Daily Blog 2.3.21

Terrific Tuesday! We have had another great day in Crew Ferguson today. We have worked collaboratively to start creating our own Lincoln Castle models. We worked on previous knowledge on bending/ scoring and tearing card to begin to create the different parts of the castle. We Carefully used a ruler and cubes to measure all the different parts of the castle we were creating to ensure each model part would be the same height when put together as a whole.

We have really impressed our teachers with the great team work we were showing.

Our HOWL average today was 3.0. Great work crew Ferguson xx

We’ve had a lovely day welcoming back some more of our crew members today, it was so lovely to see the children greet each other! It was like they had never been away ☺️

We also had a special birthday to celebrate 🎉 🎁 🎂 Roseanne turned 5, happy birthday Roseanne! Roseanne’s birthday is on the 29th February and this sparked a lovely exploration of having a leap year birthday, the children were so inquisitive and showed me they were really listening by asking lots of interesting questions.

Highlight of the Day:

We absolutely love Mondays and all the excitement it brings. Especially working with Coach Dylan in PE. Today fitted in perfectly with our expedition learning, we pretended we were the characters in Toy Story and had to move around the hall in different ways. We then had a challenge to tidy Andy’s room from the smelly clothes, we had to use our good listening skills. When Emperor Zurg came along we had to run and hide quietly, we worked so we heard Andy coming up the stairs. Great crew work!

Howl Heroes:

Work Hard: Miss Thiede’s phonics group all achieved a ‘work hard’ today for showing Miss Thiede that they were able to get smart by applying what they know, consistently.

Get Smart: Summer for fantastic work in phonics today.

Be Kind:  Taylor for helping his crew move back into our classroom and orangise and sort our resources, tidily.

Howl Average:

2.7 – Not the best start to our week but I’m sure after our pledge in HoWLs crew we will have a better day tomorrow and work towards our target of three. We need to ensure we all work as a crew to listening and pay attention to instructions tomorrow without any reminders.

Tuesday 💪🏻

Highlight of the day:

The children went into their new RWI groups today with their new teachers. It has really blown their teachers away with how much progress some children have made. We can see those children who have been practising at home with some children making leaps of progress, thank you to those parents for your continued support. I’m so proud of you! I will be sending home a progress report for RWI next week so you can see how well your children are doing and their next steps.

It was a great maths session today, children were answering addition and subtraction sentences independently. We had to use lots of skills including what the sentence asked us to do, if we’d have to count on or back and then decide how we’d work the answer out if it was tricky. We had some great collaboration in our Crew 💪🏻🙌🏼

Today’s HoWL hero:

Being Kind: Taylor. Taylor is always there to offer a helping hand to his crew. He is so considerate of others and loves to help. You are so thoughtful Taylor ☺️

What a fantastic start to the week! It was lovely to see the children back in school today along with some crew members we’ve really missed ❤️

Highlight of the day:

The children really impressed me in Crew this morning and circled up quickly and quietly. It was like we’ve never been away and we remembered to display learning behaviours which demonstrated we were working hard to be ‘green’ standard. We enjoyed sharing our adventures over the half term holidays – it sounds like the children had a lovely time sharing time with their families, going on lots of walks and trips to the park 🌳🦮☀️👩‍👩‍👦‍👦

We also had a fantastic time in PE today, developing our listening skills and following three step instructions. We had to be sneaky pirates 🏴‍☠️  today and steal treasure 💰  from the pirate ship pirate 🏴‍☠️ whilst avoiding a sneaky crocodile 🐊  trying to eat us!

Howl Heroes:

🟥Work Hard: Zach for his perseverance and concentration when writing his name today. Not only did he write his first name independently but his second name too! His handwriting was also beautiful in phonics when were we practising our letter formation.

🟦Get Smart: Roseanne for her consistent attitude her learning, even after six weeks off school Roseanne worked so hard to show me that she was ready to learn.

Well done everyone, have a lovely evening in the sunshine

Wonderful Wednesday ✔

Highlight of the day: Children worked hard today in our Write Stuff lesson, using the ‘noticing’ lense. We have really enjoyed the story ‘Bringing down the Moon’ and we thought about how mole looked and felt. Many of us had not seen a mole before so this led to some interesting discussions and internet research. We also spotted the moon when we were on our daily moonwalk, we concluded that we wouldn’t be able to bring it to earth!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mop5HjxFOu0&t=7s

We explored the word ‘reflection’ and SJ demonstrated he was ‘getting smart’ by using what he already knew to explain how mole could see himself in the water.

We had some beautiful work produced ❤

HoWL heroes:

SJ and Shelby for their beautiful writing, they worked independently and thought carefully about the steps they needed to take to ensure they were successful.

Tuesday ✔

Today we were so excited by the snow! When we went out to the daily mile we discovered that the muga pitch resembled the moon with its dusting of snow. We made giant strides in the snow just like Neil Armstrong!

In math’s today the children used their measuring skills to measure how tall the aliens were, find the corresponding number and the write it! The children worked in perfect partners to help each other when things became a little tricky.

Todays HoWL heroes were:

Lilly-Mae – Lilly has worked so hard today to get smart. She has applied her phonics and her math’s skills.

SJ – SJ wrote a beautiful valentines card today. He applied his phonics skills to spell some really tricky words.
