Roald Dahl Day 2023!

Dear Parents/Carers,

Next week, on Wednesday 13th September 2023 we will be celebrating Roald Dahl Day here at Carcroft Primary School! We highly value reading and as a school feel that as Roald Dahl was one of the best-known and best-selling authors of the 20th century, that we should take part in this special day to celebrate him and his books. As well as take the opportunity to continue to promote the love of books and reading.

During the school day each crew will participate in a range of engaging activities, including sharing their favourite Roald Dahl books, listening to staff read an extract from their favourite Roald Dahl novel, watching movie adaptations, learning interesting facts about Roald Dahl including the history of Roald Dahl and lots lots more! We hope that by providing our pupils with these carefully planned activities that these will support our drive to maintain, promote and engage our pupils in reading. Each Crew Leader will create a blog at the end of the day/week so that you can see all of the exciting things that your child/ren have been getting up to throughout the day!

As part of this exciting day we are asking for the children (and staff!) to come to school dressed as their favourite Roald Dahl book character. We are aware that the event is next week so do not expect new outfits to be purchased for the event. Just simply have a look in your child’s wardrobe and see what they can wear. Such as, a blue dress for Matilda or a pair of jeans and red top for George. If you feel your child does not have anything suitable then they can simply just their own clothes for the day that they feel comfortable in (non-school uniform), of course if they wish to dress up they can! We know the first few weeks of school life are manic and do not wish to add to this! We also won’t be asking for any monetary donations on this occasion.

Either at the end of this day or in preparation for the day it would be lovely for you to discuss with your child/ren the different characters that appear in some of the famous Roald Dahl story books and maybe even share a favourite Roald Dahl story (there are lots online!).

We look forward to celebrating this special day!

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
