One final blog for Crew Welburn 2020/2021

Where do I even begin with our final crew blog? Crew Welburn have absolutely blown me away this year. They have worked so hard on their HOWLs and embraced every challenge I have thrown at them throughout the year! I am so proud of everything each of them has achieved. From our very first day trying to line up ready to take a photo, to my last day with them on Wednesday where we had forest school and toasted marshmallows, we’ve managed to squeeze so much into this year…So I thought that we could use our final blog post to look back on some of my favourite photos from Crew Welburn’s school year…

Have an amazing summer making lots of memories!🌞🌞 I’ll see you all in September 💕

Crew Wilson and Welburn

Wednesday – we are going out to forest school. Please send the children in old clothes as we are going to be toasting marshmallows, so they may get a little smoky, and appropriate footwear such as wellies or trainers that you don’t mind getting a bit muddy.

Friday – as well as non uniform day, we are going to have one final treat for the children… A water fight! Please send the children in clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting wet, with a towel and a change of clothes for after the water fight.

Highlight of the week:
Our highlight of the week has been sports day this week! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏆 We all had loads of fun taking part in the activities and we loved watching the video that Mr Wilson put together of it all – https://carcroftschool.co.uk/category/super-sport/

A big thank you to Miss Marsh for organising all of the events as well – we loved it!

This week’s HOWL average: 3.4 Well done Crew Welburn! I think this means we have earnt our spin on the wheel next week!

Learning legend: This week’s learning legend is Harry. Harry has worked really hard on his beautiful work this week ready for our display. He has made sure his letters are formed correctly using the handwriting rhymes, and has made his ascenders tall and his descenders now sit below the line. Well done Harry, keep it up!

Crew Welburn’s Weekly Review 25.6.2021

Highlight of the week:

I am so impressed with our crew this week. They have absolutely smashed assessment week and every single one of them has shown me just how smart they have got over the past year! Well done Crew Welburn 🌟⭐🌟

In between all of our assessments, we have had lots of opportunity to build our communication and trust as a crew. We’ve really enjoyed our jigsaw sessions this week as part of this, as we’ve thought about what makes a good friend and how we can be better friends in our crew to show how kind we are.

We have also been writing up some of our pieces of work ready for our new display to go up in the next couple of weeks. I’ve been blown away by some of the handwriting progression that I’ve seen this week, particularly with Harry’s work. Have a look at one of his first pieces of writing from autumn term, and the piece which he has just produced for display…

She has worked hard to write using chunks of sense, capital letters, full stops and finger spaces, and she has been brilliant at critiquing her handwriting to try and make it beautiful in her expedition book. Frankie has also shown what a kind member of Crew Welburn she is, by looking out for people to praise throughout the day, to help us all to reflect and celebrate the positives in our crew. Well done Frankie, you are a fantastic member of Crew Welburn!

Crew Welburn’s Weekly Review 18.6.2021

Highlight of the week:

Crew Welburn have really impressed me with their writing this week in expedition lessons. We have carried out two pieces of independent writing and the quality has absolutely blown me away! I can’t believe that five and six year olds can write such amazing fact files!

We have also been working really hard in maths this week, looking at arrays. We picked this up really quickly and everyone felt really confident at making arrays for different numbers in multiple ways.

Crew Welburn’s Weekly Review 11.6.2021

Highlight of the week:

We have had a lovely first week back in Crew Welburn, and the sunshine has made it even better as we’ve been able to move some of our expedition lessons outside! We have worked really well on all of our HOWLs this week, and our scores have been amazing! We’ve really impressed our teachers in expedition as well as we’ve started to pull together our pieces of work for our final products. Take a sneak peak at the pictures to see what we have been up to! 🖌🎨🖼

This week, we’ve also been trying extra hard to be kind, and the crew pointed this out on Tuesday as they praised each other at the end of the day for playing so nicely together in the afternoon. This was really lovely to hear from the children and I am sure it will continue throughout the rest of this half term. We used crew time on Tuesday to build different relationships in our crew by working with someone we do not usually work with. We had to use our communication skills and trust to guide each other around the obstacle course wearing blindfolds!

Crew Welburn’s Weekly Review 28.5.2021

Highlight of the week:

Wow! What a week we have had in Crew Welburn. I am amazed by the children’s writing this week as we’ve begun writing our fact files for our final product to display at Flamingo Land. We’ve used all of our knowledge from expedition lessons to build sentences around giraffes and zebras, ready to send off for the final product. We also shared our fact files from farm animals with Foundation Stage today, using our big, clear voices. We hope they learnt a lot from them!

This week, we’ve also been doing lots of team building, communication activities in crew time. We have played listening games where we have to listen and clap rhythms, and we’ve used our communication skills to get ourselves into height order.

Crew Welburn’s Weekly Review 21.5.2021

Highlight of the week:

I am so proud of all of the children in Crew Welburn this week. Every single child has worked hard to get smart, and they have all been really kind to each other. This is what I like to see!
We have had an exciting week in expedition this week as we started a new case study about the UK and farm animals. We worked really hard in mini crews to collect information about the different animals using videos, and from this, we created fact files to go and share with foundation stage as they are learning about farm animals too. I am so impressed with the sentences that the children built for their fact files, and the scientific knowledge that they included too. Take a look at some of our drafts below…👀👀

My learning legend for this week is Harriet Lewis. Harriet has worked hard to improve her behaviour in school over the last week so that she can get smart in lessons. Harriet has tried hard to follow adult instructions first time, and has met minimum expectations in each of her lessons. Keep this up Harriet, we are really impressed at how hard you have worked over the last week.

Crew Welburn’s Weekly Review 14.5.2021

Highlight of the week:

This week has been fantastic in Crew Welburn. We have worked really hard on our HOWLs, and as a treat, we had a special visitor – Teddy! We had so much fun playing with Teddy in the playground and on the field, and we worked on our throwing skills. We even made sure that we were still working hard in all of our lessons, even though Teddy was in the room. Miss Welburn was really impressed!🐾🐾

HOWL Heroes:

Work Hard: Lylah

Get Smart: Charlie

Be Kind: Jamie

My learning legend for this week is Evie England. Evie has worked really hard with her writing this week. She has practiced saying her sentence to adults, to her partner and to herself to make sure she remembers what she is writing, and then has written it using beautiful writing in her writing book. Not only has she done this and met gold standard, she has then challenged herself to deepen the moment and meet green standard. Well done Evie, it is fantastic to see you focusing so well on your writing.

HOWL Score: 3.5 Well done Crew Welburn!
