Wow! What another wonderful week at school. It is fabulous to see all the children settling into year 2.

Highlight of the day:

In science, the children have blown me away with their knowledge of the life of a human. The children showed such enthusiasm to share their thoughts, it was wonderful to see. They loved to tell me about babies in their families and how they love to sleep, crawl and play with toys.

Learning Legend

Where to start with our learning legend this week. Hollie is an absolute star who strives to achieve and challenges herself in every lesson.

HOWLs

Our Crew average for today was an amazing 3.4. Well done Crew Flaherty, such a brilliant end to our week.

HOWL heroes

Work Hard

Millie – for staying focused during her lessons.

Get Smart

Chase – for listening carefully especially in RWI

Be Kind

Jenson – for being kind to his friends at playtime.

Weekly overview

Every morning, we enjoy our Crew time together. It is lovely to hear how many children enjoy coming to school to learn, see their friends and even me. It brightens up my day….every day! In English, the children have been writing a wonderful recount of their journey to Coffee Corner. In maths, we have continued to learn about place value and how to partition numbers up to 100. Crew Flaherty have also impressed us when they counted in tens backwards and forwards to 100. We were Crew and no one was left behind. This week we have been focusing on one of our HOWLS work hard and the children have been demonstrating this in their lessons. I wonder if next week, Crew Flaherty can make sure they are focused at all times when an adult is talking. I know we can do it!

What an amazing week it has been, I look forward to seeing you all on Monday  and I wonder what next week will bring?

Daily post 18.09.20

Yay! It’s the WEEKEND! 😁 Other exciting news… It’s Mrs Elmer’s Birthday tomorrow! 🎈

We had a tricky start to our learning in Crew Elmer this morning but that didn’t stop us all from having a Fantastic Friday! 🤩

Star moment of the day:

Today I was incredibly impressed with children’s knowledge of solids, liquids and gases, as well as how quickly they all grasped our new scientific vocabulary: ‘particles’, ‘vibrate’ and ‘collide’. Children were also able to list the properties of the three different states as well as list some examples of each. Many children also deepened their learning by writing some ‘I wonder’ questions to enable them to achieve ‘Green Standard’. Take a sneak peek below:

Today’s HoWL average is: 3.4

Today our Crew average is back up there! 🙌 I believe that this is down to so many children being engaged in their learning today. Both in Science and Maths lots of children were ‘working hard’ and as a result achieved ‘Green Standard, showing just how ‘smart’ they are. Children have also been working on being ‘kind’ to each other today. Well done Crew Elmer! More of this next week please! 👍

This week’s HoWL target is: 3.3

How can we improve this next week?

Next week, Crew Elmer need to continue to ‘work hard’, ‘get smart’ and ‘be kind’. I would especially like to see EVERYONE in Crew Elmer working hard – no fiddling with rulers, pencils etc. when someone is talking and making sure that they are focused at all times!

Today’s HoWL Hero:

Crew Elmer nominated Laila for HoWL Hero today for ‘getting smart’. Laila was nominated by several children in Crew Elmer as well and Mrs Elmer and Miss Hart. This lovely young lady always gets on quietly with her work and as a result achieved ‘Green Standard’ in both her Science and Maths work today. Well done Laila! You may be quiet but we’ve all noticed you ‘getting smart’!

Learning legend:

Where do I even begin with our ‘Learning Legend’ for last week?! When I joined Carcroft I was told lots of stories about this child. Despite this, being new to the school everyone joined my crew and was given a fresh start. From the onset this boy greeted me with smiles, used his manners to speak to me, joined in in class by putting his hand up, completed every task I asked of him to expected standard if not ‘Green Standard’, and has been kind to us all. The start that he has had in Year 4 has blown everyone in school away! Both academically and behaviour wise this boy has been fantastic! His has produced some high quality work including his art work in expedition which impressed the whole class and was nominated for display! He has also been following HoWLS well and achieving 3’s and 4’s most days. Last of all, his behaviour on our micro adventure was exceptional and his knowledge of the area kept us all interested! We are all incredibly proud of you Harley! Keep up the great behaviour and your enthusiasm to learn! 🥇🏆

Weekly overview:

The children have really settled well into Crew Elmer and I love doing Crew every morning and hearing how many of the children are in the ‘Green Zone’ because they love coming to school and being in this crew. It is heart warming to hear 💕 and makes coming to school to teach you all even more enjoyable! We have done lots of learning in Year 4 including partitioning, rounding and writing numbers in Maths, drawing particles in Science, planning our own stories in The Write Stuff, learning about our local area in Expedition and developing our language knowledge through listening to our class book, ‘The boy at the back of the class’. A great week Crew Elmer! I wonder what next week will bring?!

Crew Attendance:

Our latest attendance was  90%. This means that we are working towards the minimum expected standard (97%) this week!

Crew Mcloughlin Blog 18/09/20

Day Highlights✨

Crew Mcloughlin had an amazing day today filled with kindness, working hard and getting smart. The children love joining in with the virtual celebration and seeing the other Crew achievements. We started with morning off with science where we learned about Foetal development and after Crew Mcloughlin being very inquisitive we learnt lots of other science too. We created a timetable of the stages of development and had a discussion about ourselves as newborns. We then practised our numbers in Spanish and learnt how to ask ‘how old are you?’ in Spanish and respond. We even had some children who wanted a challenge and thought counting up to ten in Spanish was easy peasy so we watched a video to help us learn our numbers to 50.

Learning Legend

Our Learning Legend was Noah for constantly working hard and never giving up, he takes pride in every piece of work he produces and ensures he is achieving beyond expectations. We are all lucky to have you in our Crew and you should be so proud of yourself!

We are ending the week on a Crew average of 3, well done Crew Mcloughlin!

My highlight of the week has definitely been experiencing and watching us all bond together, we really have formed a fantastic Crew here. You will all soon see if we get Crew right, we get everything right! Lets see if we can go above and beyond to reach 4 next week. We can do this!

Have a lovely weekend, don’t miss Crew Mcloughlin too much!

Crew Longley Weekly Review

Hi all,

Star moment of the day:

The children worked really hard in Maths today learning to add  and subtract 1, 10 and 100.

Today’s HoWL average is: 2.7 ✅

This weeks HoWL average is: 2.7 ✅

Weekly HoWL target: 2.7

I wonder…….

I wonder if Crew Longley could work hard to ensure they develop their listening skills. This means looking at the person listening, listening carefully and taking turns to talk.

Today’s HoWL Hero:

Today’s Hero is Ruby. She has really been amazing across the week and I would like to praise her attitude, smile and handwriting

This week’s Learning legend:

Lacee-May

I have chosen Lacee-May to be our learning legend this week because she has really tried hard to get smart since we came back in September. I have enjoyed seeing the smile spread across her face when she achieves the minimum expectation in her learning. My favourite moment was seeing Lacee-May learning to count in 100’s and then help her friend when she was stuck. Well done Lacee-May

This week in Crew Longley:

This week in Crew, the children have continued to learn about working hard and what their dream school would look like. We discussed positive learning habits and have been working hard to show these across all of our lessons.

in English, we have continued to develop our writing skills, while using the new writing rainbow. We have decided to continue trying to develop our handwriting and presentation.

In Maths, our Crew have been developing our understanding of place value. We have been brilliant at using practical equipment and learning the new diagnostic 5 system. Our crew are becoming more confident mathematicians by the day.

Across expedition and theme we have been exploring plant life cycles, map skills and community. It has been a really busy week, but it has been lovely seeing everyone really trying hard to get smart.

Crew Attendance:

Our latest attendance was  97.5%. ✅ This means that we have met the expected standard (97%) this week!
Well Done Crew Longley!

Daily Blog: 18.09.2020

Well, we can’t quite believe another week is over in Crew Godley, time certainly flies when you are having fun! It is so great to see the children settling into our daily routines and working hard a crew to ensure we set out to achieve our goals.

Next week we are starting our ‘Crew Rewards’. We will be working hard to fill our jar full of pasta, as a crew, to earn a special treat! We are very excited to work together to achieve this.

Today’s highlight was developing our fine motor skills by snipping some beautiful flowers to make our own creations! This activity helped us to strengthen our fingers whilst also using our imagination to create some wonderful storytelling and art work.

Positives for this week:

-We have worked hard to make sure we are working smart on the carpet – this is shown by good sitting, good listening and eyes on our teachers. We are beginning to ‘circle up’ much quicker!

-We have worked hard in provision to practice our independent skills – this has included being kind by respecting our environment and working as a crew to be the best we can be.

-We have had lots of fun outside in provision – including ball games, bike races, fun on the trim trail and water play.

Have a lovely weekend everyone 🌞🌞

18.09.20 – Weekly Blog

Good evening,

Star moment of the day:

What a great day we’ve had today!  I’m not sure whether our star moment was the concentration and focus during science or the speed and concentration which we displayed in maths so it’s only fair to say they both were!

Today’s HoWL average is: 3.2

How can we improve this next week?

We need to show this concentration and focus more consistently next week and I challenge our crew to demonstrate the same HoWLs they showed all today in their writing next week.

Today’s HoWL Hero:

Be Kind – Freya!

Freya has really shown her caring side today and her kindness, respect and manners have been immaculate.  Not only has this helped her to Get Smart, but she’s also been able to help those around her to Get Smart as well.  What a day, Freya!

Our Learning Legend:

Lexi!

Lexi has produced some great work this week and her work ethic and attitude has been a great example for the rest of her crew, especially those on her table! Well done, Lexi!

Weekly overview:

We have had a strong week this week as we are becoming more familiar with the routines and expectations while in school.  Concentration is improving and this is helping everyone to see their own progress in lessons.  There’s too much to mention so some snippets would be the fitness session in PE (there are some very flexible members of our crew!), the excitement of looking at coding in computing and the energy in demonstrating what the particles look like in solids, liquids and gases!  I know I can’t wait to see what we achieve next week!  Thank you Crew Boswell and enjoy a thoroughly deserved weekend.  I’ll see you on Monday and may even have a surprise for you all after succeeding in our science challenge

Crew Attendance:

Our latest attendance was  92%. This means that we are working towards the minimum expected standard (97%) this week!

Crew Wilson Daily Blog : 18/09/2020

Wow! Another week over, and Crew Wilson have achieved so much!

Highlights of the Week:

In English we have been writing a recount of our journey to Coffee Corner. Throughout the week the children have worked fantastically as collaborators, helping each other with sounding out tricky words, letter formation and extending vocabulary through discussion. Every child has ‘Worked Hard’ at writing words for the sentence stackers

In Science we have been looking at how the different parts of our body work, this week focussing on eyes. Again, Crew Wilson supported each other throughout the lesson, helping each other sound out the different elements of the eye (who knew eye was such a tricky word to sound out?!?). We discussed what is different about our eyes, such as colour and shape – they also enjoyed trying my glasses on and experiencing life with bad eyesight – highlight of the lesson from Toby – ‘Wow Mr Wilson I didn’t know you were THAT blind!”

In Computing, we have been learning about coding – the children are now confident inputting instructions to a BeeBot to make it move to where they want on the map (they also know how to make it spin in circles and dance!) The Crew have responded really well to this and have experimented manoeuvring objects physically, on a laptop and on the Interactive White Board

.

In Maths we have been exploring numbers 1-10, and have practiced counting forwards and backwards, as well as ordering and grouping and writing both numerals and number words. Some wonderfully collaborative work displayed again, the Crew really want everyone to achieve their best and are great cheerleaders for children who feel that they can’t do it, they have such wonderful empathy skills and it’s such a pleasure to watch them discuss problems and explain the answers to their friends!

Howl Heroes

We have ended the week with a 3.4 Howl average, Crew Wilson have blown me away time and time again this week with their fantastic ideas, improving listening skills and empathy for one another – we really are building a Crew here!

Bobby-J is our Howl Hero for the week as he consistently has a positive attitude towards his learning, is always reminding others of the right way to do things and has had a fantastic week across all subjects, keep up the good work!

Mr W signing off after a busy week, have a lovely weekend everyone 🙂

Daily Blog 18/09/20

What a lovely ending to the week we have had today! ☀️

Today we have practised our mark making skills, ensuring we are using the correct pencil grip and working hard to follow lines using our fine motor skills! The children loved this activity and I was so amazed how great they were at this. We are going to have some fantastic writers! ✏️ 🌟

We have been really trying our best at becoming more independent in all aspects of our learning and self care. Today was a perfect opportunity to have a go at this when peeling our own bananas at snack time 🍌 Again, such a small thing which we need to learn but the children were so proud of themselves.

The children have also loved using scissors to snip and cut flowers up ✂️ 🌺🌸🥀 This is a great way to practice our cutting skills and to strengthen our fingers, which again will help us to become excellent writers!

Our HOWL Hero

Wok Hard

Working hard – Porsha

Porsha’s persistance and effort when mark making was excellent and she took so much pride in her work. This is a great attitude to have to her work already, well done!

Crew Gerrard blog (18/09/2020)

Hi everyone!

In Crew Gerrard, we have had another fantastic day of working hard, getting smart and being kind. The children loved watching the learning legends and seeing the other Crews. We learned about how the foetus develops over 9 months of pregnancy. The first activity involved matching the stages of foetal development to the description. The children looked into some of they myths and facts about pregnancy during a quiz. These activities really helped the Crew understand the stages of development ready to create a timeline. The children were really interested in this. We then practiced our Spanish vefore lunch, as the children learned how to ask their friends what their name was.

Our Learning Legend was Sapphire for being an absolute role model for Crew Gerrard. She always works hard, focusing on all of her tasks. She always tries to get smart as well, by making sure that she achieves her very best and listens carefully all the time. Sapphire is always kind to everyone in class too and makes sure that she encourages others around her. Sapphire, you are an absolute star and we’re very lucky to have you in our Crew!

Our HoWL average for today was 3.3!

We have had a fantastic week and I’m sure next week will continue that trend. You should be really proud with how you are settling in and how well you are getting on. Have a fantastic weekend and enjoy the rest!

Mr G 😄

Crew Fox Blog 18.9.20

This morning we enjoyed our Spanish lesson, learning how to meet and greet each other. We took part in multi-skills in PE and learned all about the circulatory system in Science.

Here is Alex’s diagram of the circulatory system.

We have improved our HOWLS from yesterday too!

Next week, we are looking forward to presenting our Work Hard product and can’t wait to share it with you all too.

Well done to our Learning Legend Layla – you are such a superstar.
